Due to scalpers buying out the entire stock of the Destined Rivals TCG expansion produced by The Pokemon Company, enthusiasts have been left disappointed and unable to buy any products from the collection.
Starting March 24th, the highly anticipated Destined Rivals expansion became available for pre-order on the official Pokemon Center store. However, in a matter of minutes, all Elite Trainer boxes and boosters were quickly snapped up by resellers, leaving fans empty-handed. In response, these resellers flooded eBay with the expansion, selling it at marked-up prices, denying enthusiasts the chance to acquire it.
Due to this development, there was a strong protest from the Trading Card Game (TCG) community, and The Pokémon Company has promised players that more copies of Destiny Rivals will become available again – yet, they haven’t specified an exact launch date.
On March 27, The Pokemon Company released a new statement to tackle the ongoing issue with reselling.
Pokemon company addresses TCG scalping issue
Posting via the official Pokemon website, the statement reads:
As a fellow enthusiast, I recognize that some of us have been facing challenges in acquiring specific Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) items due to an unprecedented surge in demand, which has affected availability. I completely empathize with the frustration this might cause, and I want you to know we’re doing everything possible to ramp up production of the affected Pokémon TCG products as swiftly as our factories can manage, maximizing capacity to make amends. Rest assured, reprinted items will hit the shelves at participating retailers as soon as they become available.
Regarding the latest TCG expansions such as “Destined Rivals”, The Pokemon Company is working hard to boost production, aiming to enhance the quantity of these items available in the market. They also plan to re-print affected products to combat the current issue with resellers.

During new Pokemon set releases, the Pokemon Center implements a digital queue system intended to facilitate transactions smoothly. However, this system hasn’t been effective in stopping scalpers from amassing large quantities of merchandise.
The Pokemon Company outlined their plans to further enhance the experience at Pokemon Centers by investigating strategies aimed at making sure that fans receive the products ahead of anyone else.
Regarding the specifics of the “steps” yet to be determined, but we can anticipate their implementation prior to replenishing Destined Rivals. In the interim, don’t forget to explore the forthcoming Pokémon Trading Card Game launches.
