A seller of Pokemon cards has drawn attention with an unconventional method to support the $30,000 asking price. By employing X-ray technology, they are demonstrating the presence of a rare, Shadowless Charizard within a factory-sealed pack.
2024 saw a heated debate among Pokemon card enthusiasts, ignited by YouTube content creator ‘okJLUV’, who shared a video detailing the use of CT scans to authenticate booster packs and their contents.
In the video, the YouTuber emphasized a significant case study carried out by Industrial Inspection & Consulting that is currently generating a lot of discussion within the community of trading card collectors.
Currently, a seller on eBay is now providing Computed Tomography (CT) scans as evidence that their packs hold one of the scarcest trading cards available for purchase.
Pokemon card seller using CT scans to “guarantee” Shadowless Charizard
The user ‘restoreyouredatsun’ on eBay asserts that they employed a CT scanning service to examine unopened Base Set booster packs from 1999 without opening them. In one such pack, they claim the scan detected an image resembling a Charizard card – a highly recognized and valuable card in the Pokemon Trading Card Game.
“Guaranteed shadowless Charizard inside this pack,” the listing reads.
Just had a CT scan performed by Industrial-Inspection on a few of my hefty booster packs, and you won’t believe what I found inside one of them – a hidden Charizard!
The pack, priced at $30,000 in June 2025, is labeled as having “short crimp” and “confirmed shadowless” characteristics. These attributes are typical of the early editions of Pokémon cards, as the seller indicates they were originally bought from an individual who owned a part of an old booster box in 2020.
As per the details provided, purchasers have two options: they can personally collect the unique, valuable, and rare sealed item or else arrange for special delivery, highlighting the item’s worth.

In addition to the other CT-scanned pack up for sale, priced at $3,800, this one is said to include a Raichu. Although it doesn’t generate the same frenzy as Charizard, it still commands a substantial sum for an individual unopened booster.
As a devoted fanatic of the Pokémon universe, nothing quite compares to the allure of Shadowless Charizard cards. These rare gems are almost legendary in the world of collecting, with a First Edition PSA 10 version fetching an astounding $420,000 at auction! And even those that haven’t been graded can still command thousands, depending on their condition. It’s like holding a piece of Pokémon history in your hands, and that’s a feeling I wouldn’t trade for anything.
Debating the merits of using CT scans for verifying sealed trading cards is a topic of contention within the collector’s community. While some enthusiasts extol the benefits of this technology in mitigating risks, there are others who believe it takes away the excitement of the unpredictable.
Even though the value of classic Pokemon collectibles keeps rising, and authentic sealed items are harder to come by, sellers are resorting to increasingly elaborate and sophisticated techniques to substantiate their assertions. As a devoted fan, I find myself constantly on the lookout for these innovative approaches to ensure the quality of my acquisitions.
