As a lifelong cinema enthusiast with a soft spot for stop-motion animation and nostalgic franchises, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Aardman Studios! Growing up with the original Pokémon series and being captivated by Wallace & Gromit’s adventures, it feels like a dream come true to see these two iconic worlds intertwining.
The Pokémon Company is partnering with the renowned stop-motion animation studio, Aardman, on an intriguing joint project.
Labeled simply as a “unique endeavor,” the specific nature of this project remains undetermined whether it’s a movie, series, or something completely different. However, what we do know is that Aardman Animations will infuse their distinctive narrative approach into the Pokémon universe, creating fresh adventures.
It is set to be released in 2027.
Taito Okiura, Vice President of Marketing and Media at The Pokémon Company International, expressed that the collaboration with Aardman is a fantastic opportunity. He was incredibly impressed by Aardman’s skill and ingenuity, assuring fans worldwide that what they’ve been developing together will be a delightful surprise!
Sean Clarke, head of Aardman, expressed: “It’s a significant honor to collaborate with The Pokémon Company International. We truly appreciate being given the responsibility to animate their characters and realm in a fresh manner. Combining Pokémon, the most prominent entertainment brand, with our passion for craftsmanship, character development, and humorous storytelling is incredibly thrilling. Aardman and TPCi have a common focus on tradition, precision, and prioritizing our fans and viewers, which we believe will guide us effectively as we jointly produce enchanting, unique, and innovative tales for audiences worldwide.
The specific location where the new project will be accessible hasn’t been disclosed yet, however, it’s known that both The Pokémon Company and Aardman have partnerships with Netflix. Previously, “Pokemon Concierge,” an exclusive stop-motion series by The Pokemon Company, debuted on this streaming platform, which also serves as the global distributor (outside Japan) for the CGI animated series “Pokemon Horizons.” Additionally, Netflix and Aardman have worked together on multiple projects, one of them being the 2020 release of “Chicken Run” sequel titled “Dawn of the Nugget.
