PlayStation Portal Reportedly Adds PlayStation Classics For Cloud-Streaming Beta

It appears there are more than 30 new games accessible to stream through the cloud on PlayStation Portal, and these don’t require a PS5. Interestingly, all of them belong to the Classics catalog. A recent report reveals that nearly every original PlayStation and PSP title offered with the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription can now be played on a handheld device.

As reported by TrueTrophies, Sony has secretly incorporated PlayStation Classics into the cloud-streaming beta of the PlayStation Portal. This much-desired feature, which no longer necessitates using a PS5, was introduced in November and continues to be in its testing phase. Users of PlayStation Portal are required to opt-in, and initially, only games from the PS Plus catalog on the PS5 were playable. However, it appears that the collection now includes games like Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, Twisted Metal 2, and MediEvil: Resurrection.

During the last summer season, an update for the PlayStation Portal enabled users to enjoy gaming in a wider range of locations with enhanced public Wi-Fi connectivity. Essentially, when attempting to connect at places like airports or hotels, the device generates a QR code that requires a smartphone to finalize the connection process.

In the month of November, it was reported that Sony is working on a portable version of the PlayStation 5, aiming to challenge devices like the Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam Deck. On the other hand, Microsoft seems to be planning to release an Xbox-branded handheld device this year in collaboration with Asus.

The PlayStation Portal launched in 2023.
