As a long-time gamer with a penchant for superhero titles and a keen eye for value, I must admit that the January lineup for PlayStation Plus left me feeling underwhelmed. After years of anticipation, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League finally graced our screens, only to be met with a lukewarm reception and a swift decline in player count.
The game, despite its rocky start, managed to offer a fun and engaging experience that I found enjoyable. However, the controversies surrounding it and the free giveaways by other platforms have left the game’s future looking rather grim. It’s like inviting an interesting guest to a party, only to realize they’ve overstayed their welcome and everyone else has already left.
The announcement of Suicide Squad’s inclusion in the PlayStation Plus lineup for 2025 didn’t exactly set our gaming hearts racing. I mean, come on! The game is barely a year old, and now it’s free? It feels like I’m being asked to pay for the privilege of owning a used car.
To make matters worse, Rocksteady Studios has decided to pull their support for the game. It’s as if they’re saying, “Here, have this fish, but we’re not going to teach you how to cook it.” At least the servers are still up, so I suppose it could be a good opportunity for comic book fans to give it a try.
On a lighter note, I can’t help but wonder if Suicide Squad will become the next great collector’s item, like those old Atari games that people buy for thousands of dollars. Maybe in a few years, we’ll all be saying, “Remember when Suicide Squad was free on PlayStation Plus? Those were the days!
In the list of games for January on PlayStation Plus, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League takes center stage – a choice that’s somewhat underwhelming given the game was previously free and now boasts a diminished player base.
Following numerous setbacks and production difficulties, many enthusiasts had already given up on Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League prior to its release; however, the game turned out to be more enjoyable than anticipated, as we labeled it “a fun experience” in our evaluation.
Initially, the game’s strong pedigree didn’t manage to surmount various disputes which eventually led to a decrease in player count. Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League debuted with a maximum concurrent user base of 12,667, failing to match other games’ numbers during the same period.
Additionally, to make matters worse, Amazon provided the game for free during their Prime Day celebration in July, which was just a year after its initial release.
Steam Charts indicate that conditions haven’t significantly changed as the maximum number of players rarely exceeds 1,000. Consequently, when Sony announced Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League would be added to PlayStation Plus at the start of 2025, the news was received with only modest excitement.
First 2025 PlayStation Plus batch disappoints fans
In addition to Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered and The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe, the game Suicide Squad will be offered for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers in January as part of their monthly lineup.

While a considerable number of PlayStation gamers are subscribed for $10 to engage in online gaming, it’s important to note that the same title is available on Steam for roughly $4 less. This point was not fully addressed in the recent announcement.
“Even if it’s free, I’m not taking Suicide Squad,” one fan responded.
“This may be the worst month of PS + ever,” a second commenter added.
Additionally, it’s unfortunate that Rocksteady Studios stopped providing updates for Suicide Squad, which means no further content is expected. At present, the servers remain active, so for those who love comics and superheroes, the game could still be worth exploring.
