Playing The Same Game Forever Is Unhealthy For Everyone, Says Palworld Dev

As a seasoned gamer who’s seen the evolution of gaming since the days of Pong and Pac-Man, I wholeheartedly agree with John “Bucky” Buckley’s perspective on the issue of forever games. In my decades-long journey through virtual worlds, I’ve learned that variety is the spice of gaming life.

The creator of one of this year’s most unexpected successes expresses disdain towards games labeled as ‘everlasting’. To put it simply, John “Bucky” Buckley, who manages the Palworld community, considers playing a game repeatedly to be potentially unhealthy for everyone involved.

According to VGC, Bucky discussed live-service games and abandoned titles with YouTuber Going Indie. The team at Pocketpair emphasized that it’s okay for players to transition to different games. “I don’t believe we should force ourselves to keep playing the same game continually,” Bucky stated. “It isn’t beneficial for us, developers, gamers, or gaming media.”

Bucky expresses concern that big corporations might keep releasing “heartless” online-supported video games. It’s not hard to believe some people would say we’ve already experienced a bubble in these live-service games.

On the other hand, Bucky recognizes that certain games, like League of Legends, Dota 2, and MMOs in general, are meant to be played over extended periods. This issue is that a large number of people are encouraging gamers to play games not actually intended for months-long play, as Bucky clarified.

Bucky proposes an approach for individuals: explore numerous indie games without being concerned about how many people are currently playing them. This idea isn’t novel to a community manager, as earlier this year, the developer of Palworld expressed disagreement with the casual dismissal of the “Pokemon-style game with guns” losing active players.

In its inaugural month alone, Palworld has garnered an impressive following of 25 million players. Despite initial claims of plagiarism leveled against it by The Pokemon Company, Pocketpair has managed to steer clear of any legal confrontations. More recently, Pocketpair has secured a strategic partnership with Sony Music Entertainment for Palworld Entertainment Inc.
