Pre-social media era, the CEO of Arc System Works, Minoru Kidooka, shared with TopMob that Guilty Gear gamers employed rather unconventional means in requesting modifications to their games.
At the Arc World Tour Finals held on March 23, our team at TopMob noticed a passionate player waving a sign calling for improvements to the character Bridget in Guilty Gear Strive, reflecting the widespread requests within the gaming community for character upgrades in their preferred fighting games.
Lately, there’s been a lot of heated discussion among competitive gamers on social media about the status quo of Strive. Many are urging for adjustments to make the game more balanced.
Hey there! I, a passionate fan, am traipsing around at #AWT2024, clutching a petition to boost Bridget’s power!! 🧸🔥 Get on board and support this cause, @ArcSystemWorkksU!

In our conversation with Arc System Works’ CEO, Minoru Kidooka, we inquired about his thoughts regarding players’ requests and the methods they employ to balance the game for both casual and professional gamers.
Back when I was still active on the gaming scene, I remember an event that went down at ArcSys’s headquarters even before the rise of social media. It’s a testament to the lengths gamers will go to make their opinions count.
Arc System Works CEO responds to players’ demands for Guilty Gear Strive changes
Although Kidooka may not have expressed much opinion on Strive’s balance, he is cognizant that fans have been vocal about their preferences for the game throughout the 25-year lifespan of Guilty Gear. In fact, he has even shared a captivating tale from the franchise’s beginnings.
Over the past 25 years, there’s been a steady stream of feedback about Guilty Gear, such as suggestions to adjust power levels (“nerf” this) and enhance abilities (“buff” that), along with requests for specific features. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it simply indicates an active community engaged in the game.
In earlier times, individuals would physically visit our office, delivering documents with instructions for modifications. These individuals were incredibly committed and determined, often going above and beyond just to ensure their voices were heard.

For the last 25 years, Arc System Works has consistently valued and taken into account fan input, a practice that Kidooka emphasized continues unchanged today.
We consistently value input from our community and make sure to disseminate it internally. This isn’t about favoring certain players over others; rather, it’s crucial that we approach everyone impartially. By treating everyone equally, we’ve managed to thrive for 25 years.
Factually, Kidooka described player feedback as what “fuels our drive,” a sentiment supported by the positive reaction to the Venom’s gameplay trailer and the inclusion of frame data in Strive’s training mode.
