Player gets a super rare PlayStation 2 from his father-in-law. This model was attached to the TV

Throughout the history of the PlayStation, Sony has consistently released distinctive and occasionally unusual console variations. Recently, a gamer shared a particularly special find online. They showcased a free PlayStation 2 that wasn’t a typical, separate console – it was actually integrated directly into an LCD TV. Interestingly, this TV-console hybrid was sold to consumers several years after the PlayStation 3 had already been released. It’s a rare piece of PlayStation history!

A surprisingly unique Sony product debuted in 2010, and it was only available in the UK. The console was quite unusual, largely due to when it came out. By 2010, the PlayStation 3 had been on the market for 3-4 years (depending on your location), so it was unexpected when Sony released a refreshed version of the PlayStation 2.

The central component of the Bravia KDL-22PX300 TV is the console, and a gamer recently acquired it. On the r/ps2 subreddit, user heavysteelbolls shared that he received the console as a gift from his father-in-law, who had gotten it from a friend. The TV and PlayStation 2 had been sitting unused, and heavysteelbolls was eventually able to take it off their hands.

Despite a few people mentioning that the Sony Bravia KDL-22PX300 might be good to sell, the gamer responded that he doesn’t intend to. He explained he wants to play the games from the previous console generation that he hadn’t experienced yet.

I don’t really need money; I’m comfortable enough that I’d prefer to hold onto it and appreciate what I have. I’m a young adult, and I only started playing PlayStation with the PS3 and newer consoles – I never got to experience the PS2.

Sadly, heavysteelbolls didn’t share whether the console functioned correctly or what he thought of playing PlayStation 2 games on it. It would have been useful to get his feedback, as the device appeared to be in good condition, suggesting it should work as expected. This year is the 25th anniversary of the PS2’s release, and Sony confirmed last year that the console has sold approximately 160 million units worldwide. That’s a remarkable achievement!
