As a devoted admirer of Pirate Software‘s stream, I can’t help but express my perspective on his recent exchange with a viewer. Instead of bowing to pressure and producing an apology video, he boldly stood his ground against ongoing controversies, including his stance against the Stop Killing Games movement. His unwavering commitment to his beliefs is truly commendable and adds to the authenticity of his stream.
The “Stop Killing Games” initiative was launched back in April 2024, spearheaded by YouTube personality Ross Scott, also recognized as AccursedFarms. Its primary mission is to prevent game publishers from abandoning games once the developers’ support ceases.
Many individuals have shown their backing for this cause, with notable figures such as PewDiePie, Asmongold, and JackSepticEye adding their signatures to the petition. However, there have also been some skeptics voicing their concerns.
Pirate Software has been the most outspoken critic of this movement. This game developer and Twitch broadcaster expressed that it was “too ambiguous” in its objectives. Additionally, he ceased collaborations with Ludwig’s OffBrand Games studio due to Rivals of Aether 2 being review-bombed because of his stance on the issue.
Pirate Software won’t make an apology video
He’s responded to certain disputes concerning himself, yet he remains unwilling to offer an apology, despite some spectators thinking that this might curb some of the “extreme” actions directed towards him.
In my own words, I won’t be making a video admitting fault in every instance just for the sake of it and moving on, as some may expect. Frankly, I couldn’t care less about their expectations.
Absolutely, pretend to agree with them and feign emotions to make them stop harassing you. That seems like a smart solution, my friend. However, I must say, I strongly disagree.

The live-stream broadcaster faced a backlash after his controversial stance, resulting in numerous death threats amounting to tens of thousands. His actions and those of his moderation team were described as “extremely irrational.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve unfortunately experienced a significant drop in my YouTube subscriber count, surpassing the 100,000 mark. It seems that some viewers have chosen to discontinue their support, perhaps for reasons I’m still trying to understand.
The “Stop Killing Games” campaign has reached its target of amassing 1 million signatures, yet it remains uncertain whether the European Commission will enact a law to safeguard online games from disappearing.
