Phoenix Waters, Studio Target Sign Tri-Regional Film-TV Partnership, Set ‘Shashou’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Hong Kong’s Phoenix Waters Productions and South Korea’s Studio Target have signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation across borders, focusing on projects that involve Hong Kong, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.

At the Hong Kong FilMart event, a strategic partnership was unveiled with the aim of collaborating on creating, funding, and producing movies, TV series, and microdramas – these being brief digital content formats that have become very popular in Asia, serving as effective tools for audience interaction and brand promotion.

Kicking off our first lineup is the film “Shashou,” an international action-thriller that blends elements of classic Hong Kong cinema with Western influences. Production is scheduled to start later this year, boasting a diverse cast from around the world. The project has already gained support from Berkeley Media Group and Ostara Pictures, while SC Films International will manage sales and MAD Solutions will acquire Middle East and North Africa rights.

In the midst of numerous hurdles confronting the international film and media sector, Doyeon Julia Kim, CEO of Studio Target, expressed her conviction that our collective efforts and ingenuity are vital for shaping the industry’s future. By joining forces in this collaboration, we aim to optimize investment funds and production capacities across regions, generate content with commercial appeal worldwide, and ultimately broaden our reach on a global scale.

Amidst the hurdles in their respective industries, an alliance forms. The film industry in Hong Kong is looking for fresh paths to development and global reach, while South Korea’s sector faces challenges related to sustainability, as rising production costs and static budgets mount.

In the spirit of our partnership, Studio Target is responsible for launching the movie “Tape” in South Korea by the end of this year. This move underscores the increasing collaboration and strength between our companies.

Phoenix Waters Productions, known for East-West collaborations, has been key in rejuvenating Hong Kong cinema with movies such as “Tape,” “Forensic Psychologist,” and “The Audition.” Simultaneously, Studio Target has solidified its place as a power player in South Korean filmmaking, recently releasing the blockbuster “Hitman 2.”

As I pen this review, I can’t help but feel the weight of a promise – a commitment not just to business, but to crafting a sustainable future for the cinematic landscapes of Hong Kong and Korea. Bizhan Tong, CEO of Phoenix Waters Productions, has articulated this vision perfectly. By uniting our creative and technical prowess, we strive to create content that echoes universally, highlighting the untapped talent and captivating narratives unique to these regions.

Both firms are extending invitations to international investors, dealers, and key figures within the industry, encouraging them to join the project progression, as they move forward with their lineup of ventures.
