Phil Spencer Gives Update On Missing-In-Action Rare Game Everwild

For more than five years now, Everwild – an upcoming project from Rare Studios – has been in development as announced by Xbox. However, there hasn’t been much information shared about it since then. Recently, in an interview, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer mentioned that Everwild is progressing smoothly.

Phil Spencer dropped some hints about games he’s eagerly anticipating, and one of those was Everwild, which Rare is working tirelessly on. In his own words, he said he’s “seeing great progress” on the project.

Moreover, he praised Double Fine’s approach under Tim Schafer, mentioning how they actively seek feedback from their team. But what really got me pumped was when he shared that he recently visited Rare and witnessed the impressive strides they’re making with Everwild. Can’t wait to see more!

Spencer additionally brought up State of Decay 3 in the same segment, with the Xbox head expressing his affection for the series. Later in the conversation, Spencer revealed that studios such as Rare are granted extra time to develop games like Everwild due to Xbox’s current lineup being rich in titles. Furthermore, he hinted at his upcoming visit to The Coalition, the caretakers of the Gears of War franchise.

One of the “forgotten titles” since it was initially announced in 2019, even before the current console generation began, is Everwild. A recent report from 2022 hints that the project underwent a revamp following the exit of its creative director Simon Woodroffe in 2020. Now, Gregg Mayles, an experienced developer from Rare known for his work on Sea of Thieves, Viva Pinata, and Banjo-Kazooie, is leading Everwild’s development. Unfortunately, there’s still no news about a possible release date for Everwild.
