As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say, the early console release of Phasmophobia has left me both elated and disheartened. On one hand, it’s thrilling to see a popular PC horror game make its way onto consoles, especially during such a spooky season like Halloween. However, the fact that only current-gen consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PSVR2) have received this treat while previous generations are left in the dark is somewhat disappointing.

Phasmophobia is known as one of the top horror video games due to its intriguing concept that appeals to many players. The game centers around investigating haunted locations and uncovering the identity of the ghost present. Typically, games during their developmental stage (early access) are only accessible on personal computers for easier implementation of updates. However, the creators at Kinetic Games chose to bring their game to consoles earlier than usual, though not entirely.

Phasmophobia – PS4 and Xbox One Release (2024) Explained

Kinetic Games developers decided to treat their players this Halloween with a unique event and a new game release, but only for certain consoles. Unfortunately, if you own a PS4 or Xbox One, I regret to inform you that the game won’t be coming to last-gen systems.

It appears that yesterday’s console launch of Phasmophobia was limited to newer generation devices – PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation VR2. As of now, there’s no news about its release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch. Given this information, we can speculate that the developers believe it would not be beneficial to support the game across all platforms at this time.

Recall that releasing on consoles requires the creators to update and fix Phasmophobia across multiple devices at once, since the game is still in early access. Adding more platforms could make their tasks even more challenging. There’s a slight possibility that after version 1.0, developers might consider bringing the horror to older generations, but it could be limiting in the future. So, it’s better not to hold your breath about it.
