As someone who has been following the careers of these SNL stars for years, it’s fascinating to see how their lives were transformed by the meager paychecks they received during their time on the iconic sketch comedy series. Pete Davidson and Jason Sudeikis, with their humble confessions about splurging on dinner or a pair of shoes, remind us that even the most successful among us started small.
Pete Davidson shared the amount he earned as a “Saturday Night Live” cast member in a summary video for New York Magazine.
In a video shared on social media on Wednesday, Davidson, together with several present “SNL” cast members and former colleagues, discussed the lavish purchase they made following their initial payment from the NBC comedy show.
Davidson shared, “Have you all figured out how much we get paid?” He was a cast member on ‘SNL’ for eight seasons, from 2014 to 2022. It turns out it’s around $3,000 per episode. I guess that covers the cost of dinner for me.
Jason Sudeikis expressed a similar thought regarding his “SNL” earnings, stating, “To be honest, I didn’t earn enough to buy big-ticket items, so I believe that my New York rent was the most significant expense I incurred following my first year on ‘SNL.'” Starting as a writer in 2003, he later joined the cast for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013.
The following individuals who have previously or currently been part of “SNL” appear in this video: James Austin Johnson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sarah Silverman, Sarah Sherman, Cheri Oteri, Seth Meyers, Bowen Yang, and Rachel Dratch.
As a devoted film enthusiast speaking candidly, let me share an interesting financial anecdote. I recently splurged on a pair of shoes, and here’s the kicker – they cost me a pretty penny, setting me back $75.
In addition to other purchases, Yang was spotted buying a set of Gucci shoes in a video, remarking, “I’m heading over to Saks just across the street to buy a pair of Gucci shoes. They’re the popular ones, but I don’t feel quite trendy enough to wear them publicly right now.
Some said they used their first paycheck to buy furniture, including Johnson, Meyers and Oteri.
A sofa, I’ve had it re-covered about three or four times,” Oteri said. “I recall a designer visiting in distress, and he tells me, ‘The armrests are too tall. We need to get rid of this sofa.’ I replied, ‘Oh no, not now. Absolutely not, the sofa is staying. You’re leaving, not today.’
