The online debate about Hasan and his dog, Kaya, has become widespread, attracting attention even from animal rights organization PETA.
Popular Twitch streamer and political commentator Hasan Piker is facing criticism after a sound from his dog – a mix of Tibetan Mastiff, Chow Chow, and St. Bernard – was heard during a livestream on October 7th, sparking a viral controversy.
During his stream, Hasan seemed frustrated with Kaya and told her to go back to her dog bed, which was visible on camera. As she stepped onto the bed, she let out a yelp, as if she were in pain.
Hasan said, clearly frustrated, “Seriously? You’re acting like a child. You’re worried about stressing her out? She’s incredibly spoiled by my mom.”
Hasan’s dog, Kaya, made a yelping sound after seemingly trying to grab something, and Hasan told her to return to her spot.

The situation led to speculation that Kaya was wearing an electronic collar, and some people thought Hasan might have been using it to control the dog and encourage her to stay in view for the camera, potentially as a way to keep viewers engaged.
PETA weighs in on Hasan Piker dog collar controversy
A recent online trend has become incredibly popular, spreading across social media and even gaining the notice of animal rights organization PETA.
So, PETA reached out to the Hollywood Reporter about this whole thing, and they were really clear about how harmful shock collars can be. They said we should definitely focus on rewarding good behavior instead – you know, positive reinforcement – which makes a lot of sense to me. It’s a way better approach than punishing a dog, right?
Okay, so I’ve been following the drama with Hasan Piker, and he’s saying he *didn’t* use a shock collar on his dog. Honestly, I really hope that’s true. Those things are seriously messed up – I’ve read they can actually burn dogs, give them constant anxiety, and even make them aggressive. It’s just a really bad idea to use them, in my opinion.
Rewarding good behavior is a much better way to train animals, and it helps maintain their trust in us.

Internet divided after Hasan Piker shows dog collar on stream
The controversy, quickly dubbed ‘Collargate’ online, is currently a major topic of discussion, drawing criticism from viewers and fellow streamers alike.
Popular streamers like Tectone and xQc reacted to the situation, and xQc even offered to donate a significant $500,000 to an animal shelter in Los Angeles if Hasan would display the collar during his livestream.
Hasan followed up on the air, explaining that Kaya’s collar included a vibrator, a flashlight, an AirTag for tracking, and an alarm to help if she ever wandered off.
Hasan continues to deny claims that he abused his dog, Kaya, using a shock collar. He suggests the accusations are coming from people who dislike him, jokingly referring to them as ‘crazy haters’ and sarcastically implying he could have harmed Kaya further. He portrays the situation as absurd, stating his dog is well-trained and pampered.

He also mentioned Kaya is learning ‘place’ training, where she’s taught to remain in a designated spot until given the okay. This helps her control her impulses and feel secure.
So, I told my dog to stay put while she was jumping down from the bed, and she let out this little yelp! I’m guessing she either landed awkwardly or maybe caught her foot on something. It happened so fast!
A lot of viewers didn’t find Hasan’s explanation in his next stream believable, and xQc even challenged him to try the collar himself to demonstrate it wasn’t capable of delivering an electric shock. Hasan did keep his word and donate to an animal shelter, however.
