It’s increasingly hard to overlook the noticeable difference in how Hollywood handles Pedro Pascal versus Gina Carano.
Or, more informally:
It’s getting harder and harder not to see the stark contrast between how Hollywood deals with Pedro Pascal and Gina Carano.
At Cannes, Pedro Pascal confronted the global media, used a strong expletive against U.S. political adversaries, endorsed a movie criticized for its conservative bias, and left with applause and sensational headlines. In contrast, Gina Carano, who made fewer controversial remarks without profanity or personal attacks, faces Hollywood exile and is now pursuing legal action to clear her name.

That’s the double standard on full display.
During an interview about the A24 movie “Eddington”, Pascal was queried if he had any apprehensions about coming back to America due to the film’s politically charged theme. However, his reaction was straightforward.
He stated, “Disregard those who attempt to instill fear within you. Fear is their victory… Continue to express yourself and avoid giving them that triumph.
The movie takes place in New Mexico during the 2020 lockdowns and showcases a conflict between the left-wing mayor, played by Pascal, and the sheriff, portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix. Critics have labeled it as a bold critique of conservative populism, depicting a town in turmoil. Variety commended its assertive style and content, with Pascal likening the script to “whistleblowing” and stating that it felt empowering, like someone was finally breaking their silence from within.

There’s been no sign of Disney publicly criticizing or distancing themselves from these remarks, nor have we seen a statement issued by Marvel or Lucasfilm. It seems unlikely that this situation will prompt any such response.
In the series “The Mandalorian & Grogu” and the upcoming film “Avengers: Secret Wars”, Pascal continues to shine as the central character, maintaining a significant presence.
Now compare Pedro Pascal to Gina Carano.

Last year, I took to social media to express my concerns about the dangers of vilifying political adversaries, using historical events in 1940s Germany as an example. My post was devoid of any offensive language and did not single out anyone specifically. It was merely a plea for awareness and understanding. However, this seemingly innocent message was met with severe consequences – Lucasfilm terminated my contract, publicly denounced me, and effectively expunged me from the Star Wars universe.
She has not worked with a major studio since.

A few days following Gina Carano’s post, Pedro Pascal disseminated a meme likening modern American Republicans to the Confederate States, labeling them as the worst evil in history. The meme used symbolism directly linked to hate, oppression, and internal strife within the country. In contrast to Carano, Pascal experienced no backlash; instead, he continued to secure significant roles and garnered public endorsement from studios that had previously severed ties with her.
Currently, Carano is taking legal action against Disney and Lucasfilm, alleging wrongful termination and discrimination based on her political and religious beliefs. She claims these views led to her dismissal. The lawsuit, supported by Elon Musk, seems to highlight the same kind of double standard now apparent in the case of Pedro Pascal.

It’s hard to overlook the stark contrast between Pedro Pascal and Gina Carano: while one employs his platform to ridicule and swear at a large part of the nation, gaining even more opportunities, the other advocated for unity yet faced rejection.
I’m not the only one facing scrutiny. Mark Ruffalo frequently takes aim at conservative Americans online, yet Marvel Studios stays silent. Similarly, Mark Hamill mocks and demeans voters with no repercussions. They continue to be beloved figures within Disney’s kingdom. In stark contrast, Carano remains shunned.

This isn’t about “problematic” behavior. It’s about who’s allowed to speak — and who isn’t.
In simpler terms, it seems that in Hollywood, as long as you toe the specific line of messaging, any level of frustration, profanity, or political criticism is tolerated. However, deviate from this single-file path, not even a slight step, and the repercussions are immediate and merciless.
Pedro Pascal didn’t merely voice an opinion; instead, he fiercely criticized a significant segment of the U.S. population, doing so on a global platform, and received a prolonged five-minute standing ovation in response.

Gina Carano? She shared a warning. And she got fired.
Now, she’s taking them to court to expose it.
