People have always been fascinated by true crime, and many studios have tried to capitalize on this interest with different shows and movies. Following the success of Ryan Murphy’s Monster series on Netflix, Peacock has now entered the genre with its own offering, Devil in Disguise.
The limited series, covering the first season, launched on October 16th and quickly gained critical acclaim for its portrayal of the serial killer at the heart of the story. A second season is planned, and stars Chris Sullivan, Michael Angarano, and James Badge Dale recently shared with US Weekly whether they’ll be back – possibly in different roles – for the next installment.
A second season of Devil in Disguise is confirmed, and this time it will focus on the story of Richard Ramirez, better known as the Night Stalker. Peacock announced the renewal before the first season even aired.
Patrick Macmanus, the creator of shows like Dr. Death and The Girl From Plainville, will oversee the second season of Devil in Disguise as showrunner and executive producer, alongside his team at Littleton Road Prods. and Universal Studio Group’s UCP. While the cast for Season 2 hasn’t been announced, the original actors are interested in returning.
Chris Sullivan, who played Bill Kunkle, said he’d gladly work with creator Patrick Macmanus and his team again in the future.
James Badge Dale, who played Joe Kozenczak, said the atmosphere on set was wonderfully warm and inspiring.
Michael Angarano, who played Sam Amirante in the first season, shared similar feelings. He described the experience on set as surprisingly positive, despite the show’s dark and difficult themes. He said working with the cast, crew, and director Patrick was incredibly enjoyable, and he considers it the best job he’s ever had.
Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy Was a Huge Hit
The series Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy, based on a similar story, quickly became popular, starring as the notorious serial killer known as the “Killer Clown.” It initially reached number one but is now currently in third place as of October 26th, trailing behind Law & Order: SVU and Chicago P.D.
Peacock’s true crime series is getting rave reviews, with critics giving it a 95% approval rating based on 19 reviews. Viewers also love it, giving it an 88% score on Popcornmeter.
In 2024, when Peacock announced the series, Lorie Sisterman – the sister of John Wayne Gacy’s victim, James Haakenson – publicly stated she does not support it at all.
