‘Peaches Goes Bananas’ Trailer Drops: Marie Losier’s Documentary Charts Rise of Feminist Queer Icon

As a longtime fan and admirer of both Peaches and Marie Losier, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of “Peaches Goes Bananas.” Having followed Peaches’ career for years and being moved by her empowering music and message, it is truly heartwarming to see such an intimate portrayal of her life, off and on stage.

As a cinephile, I am thrilled to share that my best friend has unveiled the trailer for Marie Losier’s documentary feature, “Peaches Goes Bananas.” This captivating film is set to make its grand debut at the Venice Days sidebar during the prestigious film festival.

The film presents Merrill Nisker, famously recognized as the groundbreaking feminist and LGBTQ+ icon, musician, and producer who goes by the name Peaches, both on and off stage. It highlights Peaches’ performances, her relationship with her sister Suri, and her artistic workflow.

The movie was influenced by the long-standing friendship between Losier and Peaches, as expressed by Peaches: “From our very first encounter, Marie and I shared a unique connection — comfort, joy, creative energy, understanding,” she stated. “Marie’s individuality is what makes her special to me. The profound moments immortalized in the film are precious memories I will forever hold dear, especially given the recent loss of my sister and father.”

Meanwhile, Losier noted that Peaches was inspiring due to the fact that “she seamlessly integrates her art into her lifestyle in a relaxed and genuine manner.”

As I grow older, it’s truly inspiring to witness her timeless beauty and energy, constantly pushing boundaries and engaging with the audience – much like how my films revolve around the human body. It was a profound experience for me, as a filmmaker, to encounter Peaches, a woman artist who masterfully blends intimacy and stage performance in her work.

Losier is primarily recognized for creating critically acclaimed documentaries such as “The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye,” which earned the Teddy Award at the Berlinale in 2011; “Cassandro El Exotico!,” which received the award from the Cannes ACID section in 2018; and “Felix in Wonderland,” which premiered worldwide at Locarno in 2019. Losier’s work has also been honored with a retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 2018, where all her films were added to the museum’s collection; and at the Jeu de Paume, Museum of Contemporary Art in Paris the following year.

“Produced by Carole Chassaing at Tamara Films (‘Cassandro El Exotico!’), Sébastien Andres and Alice Lemaire at Michigan Films (‘The Damned’, ‘It’s Raining in the House’), the film titled ‘Peaches Goes Bananas’ is set for release by Norte Distribution in France, and Galeries Distribution in Belgium. International sales for this documentary are managed by Best Friend Forever.”
