PBS to Air Doc About Newt Gingrich-Approved Immigrants

As a film enthusiast with a background in political science and a keen interest in immigration issues, I find myself intrigued yet skeptical about this new documentary by Newt and Callista Gingrich, titled “Journey to America.” The choice of immigrants featured in the film seems suspiciously biased towards certain eras and nationalities, leaving out contemporary stories that could offer valuable insights into our current immigration landscape.

Yesterday, it was announced that PBS obtained a fresh 90-minute documentary titled “Journey to America: With Newt and Callista Gingrich“, which is narrated and produced by the former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, along with his wife, former ambassador to the Holy See, Callista L. Gingrich. This documentary, written and directed by Kevin Knoblock, positions itself as a film that will honor “the accomplishments of nine individuals from various origins who sought the American dream and enriched our nation’s tapestry.” In a press release about the series, Gingrich expresses that this is a documentary for people who appreciate immigration, especially those whose ancestors also immigrated to America. He states, “We have always been, and remain, a country of immigrants. Immigration has become so politically charged that we often forget the significant advantages our nation has gained from the tireless efforts and innovative ideas of generations of legal immigrants.” Absolutely!

The movie will portray the experiences of nine individuals who have legally immigrated to the U.S., focusing on those whose backgrounds resemble that of your disheartened grandfather, such as Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, an Italian American who arrived in 1889 during a time when entry requirements were minimal and exclusionary policies did not exist for able-bodied individuals or non-Chinese. However, it is essential to clarify that the immigrants depicted are not from Africa, Latin America, or any post-George W. Bush era.

Xi Van Fleet, who moved from China in 1986 (after immigration became legal again), is another individual on the list of accepted immigrants. Her personal website highlights her appearance on Tucker Carlson’s program, where she promoted her book titled “Mao’s America: A Survivor’s Warning“. In this book, a survivor of Mao’s Cultural Revolution in China argues persuasively that history is mirroring itself as the Woke Movement gains momentum across America. While it might seem grandiose to make such a claim in a country where Joe Rogan amasses millions and influences presidential selection, I shall refrain from going off-topic.

The documentary will be broadcast on Tuesday, January 14th at 10 PM Eastern Time. This is exactly one week before the new administration’s inauguration, which, it seems, will no longer aim to dismantle the Public Broadcasting Corporation. Absolutely!
