Patrick Wachsberger’s 193 Inks Global Sales of ‘Die My Love,’ ‘Scandalous!,’ ‘The Surgeon’ and ‘Toxic Avenger’ From Inaugural Cannes Slate

Without a doubt, the most significant film sale at the Cannes market during the festival was Mubi’s acquisition of Lynn Ramsey’s competition film “Die My Love” for $24 million across multiple territories. Starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, this high-profile purchase is certainly the standout deal.

The deal originated from 193, a freshly-established sales firm spearheaded by veteran Patrick Wachsberger under the Legendary umbrella, who presented “Die My Love” among other significant films at Cannes as part of their inaugural lineup. Other titles included upcoming productions such as “Scandalous!”, directorial debut of Colman Domingo featuring Sydney Sweeney and David Jonsson, action movie “The Surgeon” starring Michelle Yeoh, and the dark comedy “The Toxic Avenger” with Peter Dinklage, Kevin Bacon, and Elijah Wood in the leading roles.

193 has now announced global sales for all of these titles.

Wachberger stated that securing sales on four high-profile movies, one of which has already been successfully premiered, demonstrates the power of our storytelling and the faith our global partners have in us. This is an excellent beginning for our company and a sign of the engaging projects we will continue to produce.

In addition to the multi-region agreement for “Die My Love” that Mubi secured in North America with CAA, the film was also distributed to various other territories. The Baltics acquired it through GPI, the Commonwealth of Independent States through Provzglyad – Vesta, Hong Kong through Golden Scene, Indonesia through Falcon Films, Israel through Forum Film, Japan through The Klockworx, the Middle East through Italia Films, Mongolia through FilmBridge, the Philippines through Pioneer Films, Poland through Vision Film, Portugal through NOS Audiovisuais, Scandinavia through NonStop Entertainment, and Serbia, Croatia, and Montenegro through KCS.

Simultaneously, the movie “Scandalous!,” depicting the romance between Kim Novak and Sammy Davis Jr., was acquired by various distributors: Australia/New Zealand (Village Roadshow), Baltic states (GPI), Belgium (Belga Films), Eastern Europe (Monolith Films), Greece (The Film Group), Israel (Forum Film), Italy (Rai Cinema), Latin America (Sun Distribution Group), Mongolia (FilmBridge), Philippines (Pioneer Films), Portugal (Pris Audiovisuais), Scandinavian countries (Nordisk Film), South Africa (Empire Entertainment), Spain (DeAPlaneta Entertainment), Turkey (Fabula Films), and the United Kingdom (Entertainment Film Distributors).

The movie titled “The Surgeon,” crafted by former oncologist-turned-filmmaker Roshan Sethi, has been acquired for distribution in various regions. These include Australia/New Zealand (Umbrella Entertainment), the Baltics (ACME Film), Benelux (18K), CIS (Unicorn Media), Eastern Europe (Unicorn Media), Greece (The Film Group), Israel (United King Films), Philippines (Pioneer Films), Portugal (NOS Audiovisuais), South Africa (Empire Entertainment), Spain (DeAPlaneta Entertainment) and Turkey (Fabula Films). Wachsberger and Basil Iwanyk, who collaborated on “John Wick,” are involved in this project as well.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to announce that my favorite film, a humorous reboot of Troma’s ’84 cult classic “The Toxic Avenger,” has secured distribution deals in several countries! Here’s where you can catch the action: Australia/New Zealand (Umbrella Entertainment), CIS (Golem Films), Germany/Austria (Wild Bunch AG), Greece (The Film Group), Israel (Golem Films again), Italy (Eagle Pictures), Japan (Nikkatsu Corporation), Middle East (The Plot Pictures), Philippines (Pioneer Films), Poland (Vision Film), Scandinavia (NonStop Entertainment), South Africa (Empire Entertainment), Spain (Vertigo Films), and the U.K. (Signature Entertainment). Get ready for some serious fun!
