Pathé Signs Five-Picture Library Deal With ‘Slumdog Millionaire’s’ U.K. Producer Celador Films (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for global cinema and a soft spot for British productions, I must say, Pathé’s latest move to acquire Celador Films‘ five titles, including the Oscar-winning “Slumdog Millionaire,” is nothing short of brilliant!

As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that my favorite cinema chain, Pathé, is broadening its collection by adding five movies from the London-based production house, Celador Films. Among these new additions is Danny Boyle’s Academy Award-winning masterpiece, “Slumdog Millionaire,” a film I can’t wait to revisit on the big screen!

Pathé, in partnership with Celador Films and its founder Paul Smith, has been involved in the creation, production, and distribution of numerous films. Among these projects is “Slumdog Millionaire,” a movie that Pathé distributed globally. This five-picture agreement also encompasses Neil Marshall’s “Centurion,” Jon Harris’s “The Descent” and its sequel “The Descent Part 2,” as well as Tom Harper’s “The Scouting Book for Boys.

Pathé’s president, Ardavan Safaee, expressed his excitement as we bring in these critically acclaimed movies that have garnered both commercial success and prestigious awards, into our collection,” stated Pathé.

Safaee expressed his excitement about helping them reach their fullest capabilities and maintaining their ability to charm viewers for many more years.

Meanwhile, Smith stated, “For nearly the entire lifespan of Celador Films, Pathé has effectively and successfully served as distributor in the U.K. and France, and sales agent worldwide for most of Celador’s productions. The new agreement symbolizes the strong relationship we’ve built over time, one that we are confident in entrusting Celador Films to Pathé’s care.

Pathé is experiencing a bustling year, with multiple successful films under its belt. Among these are “The Count of Monte Cristo,” currently the second highest-grossing French film of 2024, having sold approximately 9 million tickets; and Jacques Audiard’s crime musical “Emilia Perez,” France’s entry for the Oscars this year. Both films will be showcased at the upcoming American French Film Festival, where they will compete for recognition.
