As an avid gamer with countless hours spent navigating the labyrinthine world of Path of Exile, I can say that the quest “The Mysterious Shade” has been quite the intriguing challenge. The hunt for the elusive Memorial Gate keys in the Cemetery of the Eternals feels like an eerie echo of my real-life treasure hunts for misplaced game controllers and snacks during marathon gaming sessions.

In Act 1 of Path of Exile 2, one of the initial missions is titled “The Enigmatic Ghost” where your task involves unlocking a Memorial Door in the Eternals’ Cemetery. Your objective here is to locate the Count’s Tomb and assist a man named Lachlann in finding solace. Upon entering the cemetery, you will find the Memorial Door locked, requiring two keys to gain entry.

Of course, to advance in your journey, you’ll need to locate the two keys. The guide that follows will show you where these keys can be found and explain how to unlock the gate. Keep reading!

Opening the Memorial Gate in Path of Exile 2

Initially, as you step into the Eternal’s Cemetery, you’ll find the Memorial Gate positioned to your south. Although it doesn’t stand out with markings, it’s a significant structure, serving as an entrance to a walkway.

The two keys you need to find to open the Memorial Gate are located in two separate dungeons, both found within the cemetery area. One of the dungeons is called the “Tomb of the Consort,” and the other is called the “Mausoleum of the Praetor.”

The two dungeons are situated rather near the Waypoint within the graveyard. For precise locations, check out the screenshot provided below.

The Tomb of the Consort is likely the first dungeon you’ll come across, being only a little northeast of the cemetery Waypoint. The Mausoleum of the Praetor is found northwest of the Tomb of the Consort, right next to a checkpoint.

How to get keys for the Memorial Gate

To locate the keys in every dungeon, it’s necessary to venture into each one, traversing until you reach the final chamber. As one would anticipate, there will be numerous foes to engage during your journey, culminating in a boss battle at the dungeon’s conclusion.

Every time you step into a dungeon in Path of Exile 2, you’ll make progress on a secondary quest named “Mourning in Marble.” This quest, “Mourning in Marble,” can only be completed once you’ve defeated both the dungeon bosses and provided aid to Lachlann, who was first encountered at the start of the Eternal Cemetery.

In the Mausoleum of my Beloved Praetor, I come face-to-face with Draven, the Eternal Praetorian, as the final challenge. The Tomb of My Consort, Asinia, holds a similar surprise in its depths. While neither is particularly formidable alone, they often join forces within their respective battles, making for an intriguing dual encounter.

Once you’ve triumphed over both bosses, you’ll find a “Key Piece” as a green loot drop. Green loot is always quest-related and is usually easy to spot on the ground once the boss has been defeated. Gathering both of these green key drops will enable you to unlock the Memorial Gate, which is located at the start of the Cemetery of the Eternals. Additionally, the Sorrow Among Stones quest will automatically update to reflect this when both keys have been obtained.

To reach Lachlann, retrieve the two essential items and return to the Memorial Gate located south of the cemetery marker. Interact with the gate, and it will guide you on how to proceed. However, this doesn’t conclude The Mysterious Shade or Sorrow Among Stones quests as there is still one more boss battle ahead.
