As a long-time fan of Path of Exile, I’ve spent countless hours exploring Wraeclast and honing my skills as a slayer. The announcement that Path of Exile 2 will feature cross-play support has me absolutely thrilled! No more are the days of being isolated to a single platform when I want to team up with friends on different systems.
Path of Exile 2 is a sequel to the popular RPG game released in 2013, and since it’s been nearly a decade since its initial launch, it’s understandable that some contemporary gaming elements are absent from the original. One such missing feature is cross-play functionality, which hasn’t been implemented in Path of Exile yet. However, the developers at Grinding Gear Games have made it official that Path of Exile 2 will support cross-play among different platforms.
In the guide provided, you’ll find information on how the feature operates, as well as instructions for gaining access to it.
How cross-play support works in Path of Exile 2
In contrast to the original Path of Exile, Grinding Gear Games is taking a different approach in Path of Exile 2. The upcoming sequel will introduce full cross-platform compatibility, allowing players to join forces with others, irrespective of the gaming platform they choose.
If you’re using a computer (PC) and wish to play alongside someone on an Xbox One, you can easily join forces with them. This rule applies to users of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as well, along with any other platform combinations. Initially, Path of Exile 2 will debut on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. However, if additional platforms are introduced later, cross-platform compatibility is likely to extend to those new platforms too.
To play with a friend in Path of Exile 2, simply look for their username and add them. If they’re on the same platform as you, they can connect with you either through your system’s friend list or the game’s friend list. After adding them, you can extend an invitation to their party, or join theirs. Keep in mind that Path of Exile 2 allows up to six players within a single party.
In Path of Exile 2, cross-play feature extends the ability to engage in trades with others, regardless of which platform they are using. This means that even if a potential trading partner is on a different gaming system, you can still exchange items without any hassle.
Is there cross-save progression in Path of Exile 2?
It’s fantastic having cross-play, but wouldn’t it be great if progress saved across platforms was also possible, often referred to as cross-save or cross-progression? This is another feature that Grinding Gear Games has confirmed will be available when Path of Exile 2 goes into early access.
In simpler terms, cross-progression support allows players to access their Path of Exile 2 account from any device (like PlayStation 5 or PC) and retain all their previous game data. This means you don’t have to start over if you switch devices – your character progress stays the same!
