As a longtime Call of Duty: Zombies fanatic who has been navigating the labyrinthine narrative since its inception, I can confidently say that the upcoming Season 1 of Black Ops 6 is shaping up to be an exhilarating rollercoaster ride. The merging of the Chaos and Aether storylines promises to unravel a tapestry of interconnected lore that has been tantalizingly out of reach for far too long.
In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the much-anticipated Season 1 is set to introduce a new addition to the Zombies mode – the Citadelle des Morts DLC – coming up next month. This isn’t just another map for Zombies in Black Ops 6; it’s a significant milestone in the evolving Zombies storyline. The Citadelle des Morts serves to intertwine some of the existing Treyarch plotlines that were previously disjointed. Here are some key points to keep in mind before the map goes live on December 5.
In the concluding cutscene for the Terminus map, a multitude of names are presented, and if you’re not familiar with Black Ops 4 or Vanguard Zombies, these references might seem puzzling. However, for dedicated fans, this ties together all the narratives in a thought-provoking manner.
Ahead lie some spoilers: The concluding Terminus cinematics unveil that Edward Richtofen has been on a quest for Prima Materia and the Sentinel Artifacts, key components in Treyarch’s narrative of Chaos.
2018 saw the debut of a fresh ensemble of Zombies characters for the Chaos narrative in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Until now, this storyline had no ties to the Aether storyline, which centers around the original cast comprising Edward Richtofen, Takeo Masaki, Tank Dempsey, and Nikolai Belinsk. The new characters in Black Ops 4 pursued Sentinel Artifacts, artifacts fashioned from a mysterious Earth-mined material called Prima Materia.
In Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Prima Materia is unveiled as a potent substance that has the ability to grant immense power, yet it has been known to corrupt and annihilate entire civilizations. Unsurprisingly, Richtofen desires this kind of power, but obtaining a Sentinel Artifact could lead to disastrous consequences for him. Moreover, it’s suggested that a Sentinel Artifact may provide the necessary energy to resurrect Samantha Maxis from the Dark Aether. In the final cutscene of Black Ops Cold War Zombies, Samantha sacrificed herself to seal the breach between our world and the Dark Aether and prevent the Zombies antagonist, the Forsaken, from wreaking havoc.
Furthermore, the Terminus cutscene reveals that Richtofen enlisted the assistance of a French syndicate to locate a Sentinel Artifact. This group is under the leadership of Franco Moreau, and they have enlisted the aid of Sergei Ravenov. Ravenov has kidnapped a man named Gabriel Krafft for interrogation purposes, in an effort to gain knowledge about the artifacts.
In this scene, we encounter a few intriguing characters. Sergei Ravenov was most recently involved in thwarting the Outbreak intrusions during Black Ops Cold War. Contrastingly, Gabriel Krafft was a scholar of Sentinel Artifacts within Vanguard Zombies during World War II, but it’s puzzling how he survived until 1991. The trailer hints at this anomaly, labeling Krafft as “the man who should not be alive.” Perhaps Krafft has found a way to prolong his life through some artifact or relic.
In Season 1 of Black Ops, it’s thrilling to be a Zombies fan as we delve into the enigma of Kraftt’s survival and the pursuit of the Sentinel Artifact. Our new playable characters are the Terminus crew, who embark on a mission to Europe’s castle to save Gabriel Krafft from a treacherous organization. This action is crucial in finding the Sentinel Artifact from Black Ops 4 before it falls into the hands of Edward Richtofen. The Terminus crew aims not only to thwart Richtofen, but also seek the artifact’s power for themselves, hoping to bring back Samantha Maxis.
The first cinematic trailer for Citadelle des Morts can be viewed here, which shows the Terminus crew have now fled the prison island, and they’ve reconnected with Sergei Ravenov. They ask him to turn against the French syndicate, explaining to him that Krafft might know how to bring Samantha back.
As we get closer to the release, we expect to share more about the storyline and map details. Besides Citadelle des Morts, the major Zombies update will feature Perk-a-Cola, a new field upgrade, a fresh ammo modification, and additional Augments to activate. Simultaneously with the launch, the main story quest for the map will become active as well.
