Miky Lee, the influential figure behind the groundbreaking film “Parasite” at the Oscars, is set to receive yet another accolade: the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
A prominent figure in Korean entertainment, who has been instrumental in boosting its global standing for three decades, will be among the distinguished recipients of 2025 honors. This esteemed group also includes Oscar winner Adrien Brody, Albert Bourla from Pfizer, as well as Nobel laureates Dr. James Patrick Allison and former Energy Secretary Dr. Steven Chu.

A key figure in the rise of Korean entertainment on a global scale for the past three decades has been selected to receive an honor in 2025. This accolade places him alongside other prestigious recipients such as Oscar winner Adrien Brody, Pfizer’s Albert Bourla, Nobel laureates Dr. James Patrick Allison and former Energy Secretary Dr. Steven Chu.
The Ellis Island Honors Society expressed their excitement in selecting Miky Lee as one of this year’s distinguished honorees. Over the last three decades, Miky Lee, vice chair of CJ Group, has significantly contributed to raising Korea’s cultural profile globally. As executive producer of critically acclaimed films such as ‘Parasite’, the first non-English film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, and ‘Decision to Leave’, she has been key in boosting Korean cinema onto the international scene.
In the year 1995, Lee became one of the initial investors in DreamWorks. More recently, her producing roles have garnered attention, such as with “Past Lives” by A24, a film that earned a nomination for Best Picture at the Oscars.
Presently, this influential South Korean leader holds positions on several esteemed boards, such as the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Berklee College of Music, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the Hammer Museum, and Otis College of Art and Design.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I’d rephrase it this way: “Attending the Ellis Island Honor Society awards gala was like being part of a heartfelt celebration, an event that recognizes resilience, achievements, and service. The 85 honorees, in my view, epitomize the incredible promise of a country founded on liberty and opportunity.
The Ellis Island Medals of Honor, honored by both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, have a proud lineage of esteemed recipients dating back to their establishment in 1986. Among these distinguished individuals are eight former U.S. presidents, Nobel Prize winners Elie Wiesel and Malala Yousafzai, iconic figures like Frank Sinatra and Rita Moreno, trailblazers such as Rosa Parks, and legendary journalist Mike Wallace.
Lee’s most recent achievement adds to a prestigious collection, which encompasses the International Emmy Directorate Award of 2022, the Pillar Award from the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the Geumgwan Order of Cultural Merit of Korea (2023), and the Atlantic Council’s Global Citizen Award (2024).
The ceremony will take place in Ellis Island’s Great Hall on May 10.
