Paramount+’s Returning Crime Show Is Officially a Major Streaming Hit

The premiere of Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 19 on May 28th on Paramount+ probably caused a recent increase in viewers. However, the show is often popular on the streaming platform, which could also explain its consistent presence on the charts.

As a big fan of Criminal Minds, I was thrilled when it came back! CBS originally cancelled the show in 2020, but Paramount+ revived it in 2022 as Criminal Minds: Evolution. It’s essentially a continuation of the original series, and they cleverly kept the episode count going, starting with what would have been Season 16.

The latest season of Criminal Minds: Evolution tells a more continuous story, typical of streaming shows. It picks up six months after an attack on serial killer Elias Voit, known as the Sicarius Killer. This attack sparked his followers on the dark web to start committing crimes nationwide. To prevent further deaths, the BAU team had to reluctantly collaborate with Voit himself, even though he was pursuing his own hidden goals.

The new season of Criminal Minds begins with Volt still imprisoned, but his story continues, and the BAU team is still recovering from the events of last season. Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 19 boasts an impressive lineup of guest stars, including many well-known actors like Justin Kirk (known for Angels in America), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), Clark Gregg (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), Paul F. Tompkins (Bojack Horseman), Cress Williams (Black Lightning), Kofi Siriboe (Queen Sugar), Lyndon Smith (Step Sisters), Richard Cabral (Mayans), Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Picard), Rob Yang (The Menu), Nicholas Gonzalez (The Good Doctor), Inny Clemons (Judging Amy), Nicole Pacent (Westworld), Dash Mihok (Ray Donovan), Joseph Cross (Big Little Lies), and Cara Jade Myers (Killers of the Flower Moon).

Criminal Minds: Evolution Keeps the Beloved Crime Series Alive

Paramount+ has renewed Criminal Minds: Evolution for another season, exciting fans of the series. Tanya Giles, Paramount Streaming’s chief programming officer, noted the show consistently performs well and viewers have enjoyed the new, more connected storylines. She promised more suspense and unexpected developments for the BAU team, and expressed enthusiasm for what’s to come.

Criminal Minds: Evolution is a production of 20th Television and CBS Studios. Erica Messer, known for her work on previous Criminal Minds series, leads the show as showrunner and executive producer. Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw, and Mark Gordon also serve as executive producers.

Criminal Minds: Evolution is streaming now on Paramount+.
