It’s been a year since it was canceled, but Paramount+’s reboot of the classic sitcom, Frasier, might not be over yet. Revivals are common in Hollywood these days, with studios constantly looking back at old shows and movies for new ideas. Some revivals, like the recent update of Matlock starring Kathy Bates, have worked well, but most haven’t quite hit the mark.
Many TV reboots started on traditional networks, but streaming services have become a new home for these shows. This lets platforms like Paramount+ and Netflix take risks with established series without affecting their regular TV schedules. However, these revived shows often have shorter seasons, making it challenging for comedies like the new Frasier to really find their footing.

Although the new Frasier didn’t live up to the original, it’s important to remember the show struggled due to its short seasons on Paramount+. Just as it seemed to be gaining momentum, the series was canceled. The season finale hinted at a promising dynamic between Frasier and Roz, and a return by David Hyde Pierce as Niles seemed likely in future seasons.
Although Paramount+ cancelled the show a year ago, Kelsey Grammer, the star and executive producer, recently suggested it might not be over. He revealed there’s still financial backing and he’s actively working to revive it. While its future isn’t guaranteed, his continued efforts demonstrate his dedication to bringing Frasier back to television for another chapter.

David Grammer didn’t share many details about his involvement with the Frasier reboot, but it appears Paramount+ and CBS are the ones causing the delay. While it’s often difficult to revive canceled shows, it is possible. Currently, the best way for the Frasier reboot to have lasting success is for it to air on a traditional television network.
Half-hour comedies generally perform better with longer seasons, so the new Frasier on network television could have at least 18 episodes each year instead of just 10. This also ensures the show will return annually, helping Kelsey Grammer achieve his goal of a successful Frasier revival.
