Streaming service prices have been steadily rising, and Paramount+ subscribers will see another increase for the 2026 TV season. This news follows the announcement that Taylor Sheridan, known for Yellowstone, will be leaving the platform once his contract ends, leaving many wondering how these changes will impact the total number of subscribers next year.
Paramount+ Is Getting Pricier
After merging with Skydance earlier this year, Paramount+ is planning to create more content, which will lead to price increases for viewers. Recent financial reports showed declines in traditional TV advertising and distribution revenue. As a result, the ad-supported Paramount+ Essential plan will cost $8.99 per month – a $1 increase – and the ad-free Premium plan will rise to $13.99 per month starting in January 2026.
We’re not getting rid of annual subscriptions, but the price will be going up. Starting in 2026, the Essential (with ads) plan will cost $89.99 per year, and the Premium (ad-free) plan will be $139.99 per year. This is an increase from the current prices of $59.99 and $119.99, respectively. However, an annual subscription still offers savings for those who plan to use the service all year. That works out to about $7.50 per month for Premium and $11.67 per month for Essential.
Taylor Sheridan’s shows have been a major reason people subscribe to Paramount+, but South Park actually brought in the most new subscribers last quarter. The recent $7.7 billion deal to stream UFC events exclusively could also attract more viewers in the future. This might be important, as Sheridan’s popular dramas may not be available on the platform for much longer.
Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ Projects
Taylor Sheridan first gained fame as the creator of the popular TV show Yellowstone, but he’s now a major presence on Paramount+. He’s built upon the world of Yellowstone with two streaming series, 1923 and 1883. Another series, Y: Marshals, will air on CBS, but episodes will likely also be available to stream on Paramount+ like other CBS shows.
Beyond the world of Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan has created several other streaming shows, including Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Lioness, and Landman. All of these shows, except for Bass Reeves, have been renewed for additional seasons due to their popularity.
Taylor Sheridan has been a key figure at Paramount+, creating most of their popular shows and serving as an executive producer on all of them, except for Bass Reeves. However, he’s leaving the platform when his current contract ends in 2028. He’s signed a new deal with NBCUniversal to create future films and TV series, which will likely be available on Peacock starting in 2029. This new agreement begins on January 1, 2029.
If Taylor Sheridan’s departure causes subscribers to leave, Paramount Skydance likely won’t feel the impact for several years. In a surprising turn of events, the company also secured a deal with The Duffer Brothers – the creators of Stranger Things – bringing them over from Netflix. Their contract with Netflix runs until 2026. While Paramount Skydance is losing Sheridan, they’re gaining Matt and Ross Duffer.
The price increase is likely a bigger concern than anything else when it comes to potential subscriber losses in 2026. While an extra dollar a month doesn’t seem like a lot, it can add up quickly, and Paramount+ isn’t alone in raising prices – Disney+ did so in September. You can still enjoy all of Taylor Sheridan’s shows on Paramount+ at the current price for now.
