Okay, so remember Max Landis? John Landis’ son, the guy who wrote Chronicle and Bright, and… well, also that really long, kinda weird essay about Carly Rae Jepsen? He’s the one who’s apparently writing a new G.I. Joe movie. Seriously! The Hollywood Reporter says Paramount, run by David Ellison, has asked him to relaunch the franchise. But here’s the thing – they also asked Danny McBride to do a G.I. Joe movie! It’s not a competition exactly, but Paramount is planning to combine both scripts into one big movie. THR says they might keep them as separate projects, but the idea is to mash them together – kind of like swapping the heads on different G.I. Joe figures. It’s… a choice, let’s say that.
This marks Landis’s first major project since 2020, when he was removed from the film Shadow in the Cloud following accusations of sexual assault. The Daily Beast reported that eight women accused him of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. One woman described his behavior as predatory, saying he felt entitled to pursue any woman he desired and didn’t see his victims as people. In August 2021, Landis responded to the allegations in an essay, calling the accusations a flawed and unfair attempt to damage his reputation.
