Palworld Won't Switch Over To Live-Service Model

As a longtime gamer with memories of countless hours spent in various virtual worlds, I must say that Pocketpair’s recent reassurance about Palworld has brought a sigh of relief to many like-me. The idea of a beloved game transitioning into a live-service model was daunting, especially after witnessing the metamorphosis of several other games I cherished. But fear not, fellow adventurers! Pocketpair has confirmed that Palworld will remain buy-to-play and steer clear of the free-to-play/GaaS approach.

2024 saw Palworld as one of the major gaming triumphs, but its enthusiastic player base was displeased by an interview revealing that developer Pocketpair might be contemplating a transition to a live-service model. Yet, Pocketpair swiftly issued a response statement refuting this change, while subtly suggesting the potential inclusion of microtransactions in the game at a future date.

Pocketpair’s official X account on Palworld posted a detailed update to reassure fans that the contentious interview they saw was actually recorded several months ago. Despite continuous talks, the post emphasized that a Free-to-Play/Game-as-a-Service (F2P/GaaS) approach doesn’t align with their plans.

Pocketpair explained that Palworld wasn’t initially planned with such a model in mind, making it excessively laborious to modify the game now. Moreover, they value their players’ preferences highly and aim to cater to them, which is why they are not considering this option.

Concerning the future of Palworld, Pocketpair mentioned that the team is mulling over the possibility of introducing customizable items (skins) and additional content (DLC) as a method for funding further development. However, it’s important to note that the developers have committed to keeping an open conversation with fans about the game’s future direction.
