Pocketpair, the company behind Palworld, now asks potential game designer applicants to share screenshots of their Steam game library and how much time they’ve spent playing games as part of the job application process.
It seems Pocketpair isn’t just looking at resumes; they’re prioritizing candidates who are genuinely passionate and involved in playing games.
Pocketpair’s CEO recently shared how the company chooses designers, explaining their internal evaluation process as they continue developing their popular creature-collecting game.
Palworld devs require designers to submit Steam libraries
Takuro Mizobe, CEO of Pocketpair, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that a user’s Steam play history will be strictly checked as part of the initial screening process.
According to a tweet translated by Automaton, Pocketpair requires game designer applicants to share screenshots of their Steam game activity. Applicants who have never used Steam will automatically be disqualified during the initial screening process, according to Mizobe.

He also pointed out that simply playing games isn’t enough – candidates need to show they really understand the games they’re most familiar with.
During the interview, we ask participants to describe how the games they’ve spent the most time playing on Steam work, why they believe those particular features were chosen, and what makes those games different from others in the same category.
It’s not unusual for game studios to have unique hiring practices. For example, one Japanese developer asks applicants to draw during interviews to ensure they aren’t submitting artwork created by artificial intelligence.
