As a dedicated fan who has been following Palworld since its early days, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment when it was overlooked at The Game Awards 2024. However, after reflecting on Bucky’s words and taking a step back to view the situation objectively, I can understand why it wasn’t nominated.

The Community Manager of Palworld has asked fans to avoid unnecessary exaggeration following speculation that some players felt the game was overlooked during the 2024 Game Awards.

In terms of 2024 video game launches, it’s not an exaggeration to label Palworld as a sensation. This small indie title made a big impact on Steam charts and even temporarily held the position of the second most played game ever, before Black Myth: Wukong was released.

Despite facing some legal challenges with notoriously litigious Nintendo, the game has remained number one in Japan after a successful debut on PlayStation 5. Given its impressive achievements, it seems fitting that the game should receive recognition at The Game Awards 2024.

Fans of Palworld have felt slighted because it wasn’t recognized in any category, particularly Game of the Year. In response, the game’s Community Manager Bucky has used X as a platform to try and reassure these fans.

No, I don’t think Palworld was snubbed.

Twitter has become such a banterless place. Stop being so over dramatic gamers. Not everything is a conspiracy.

That being said…Satisfactory was 1000% snubbed and I’ll be voicing that opinion ad nauseam at The Game Awards in person😡

Bucky made it clear that he didn’t believe Palworld was unfairly overlooked, after facing criticism. The representative from Pocketpair advised fans to avoid excessive exaggeration and emphasized that not every situation should be interpreted as a secret plan.

Some enthusiasts of the game weren’t fully satisfied with what they received. One stated emphatically, “It was a 100% certainty; it was the most significant game of the year.” Another expressed puzzlement, asking, “Why isn’t Palworld listed in any award categories?” They found it perplexing that the game wasn’t recognized at the awards.

The answer to this is relatively simple and it explains the “snub” of Palworld that some players are still hung up on. Palworld is still in early access. Don’t worry, we almost failed to recall this as well. Given the amount of content available, it’s easy to forget that we don’t have Palworld 1.0 yet.

Indeed, it’s worth noting that The Game Awards doesn’t allow early access games like Palworld to be nominated, and this is likely why it wasn’t included in this year’s event. Moreover, the nomination of Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Game of the Year has sparked debate among gamers, causing a bit of controversy.
