As a follower, I’m excited to share my insights about the upcoming San Luis Obispo International Film Festival, which I had the privilege to be part of in 2020, during a unique time when it transitioned online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival’s location, with its stunning landscapes and easy access to beaches, mountains, and downtown theaters, sets it apart. The town’s film enthusiasts and warm, curious community make it a special place for both filmmakers and audiences alike.
This year, we will showcase over 100 films from more than 22 countries, highlighting diversity behind the camera, with a significant number of women filmmakers being featured. Our programming aims to offer a mix of good movies, pushing boundaries by featuring cutting-edge films and diverse perspectives.
Special events like Surf Nite, Community of Skate celebrations, the Central Coast Filmmakers Showcase, and Short Cuts program will also return, showcasing local talent, surfing and skateboarding cultures, and works from Cal Poly SLO students.
Notable figures such as Mark Duplass, Hannah, and Bob Mackie are expected to attend, sharing their experiences and work with our audience. The festival kicks off on April 24 with “DJ Ahmet,” a coming-of-age drama that won the 2025 Sundance Audience Award.
So mark your calendars for April 24-29, join us in San Luis Obispo, and experience the magic of this unique film festival! For more information, visit slofilmfest.org.
