These movies each offer a fresh take on what it means to be ‘super,’ viewed through the perspective of their own culture. They still often feature characters using their abilities to protect loved ones, fight injustice, or make sense of a difficult world.

I was looking at a search volume comparison – basically, how often people are searching online for ‘Magic Kingdom’ versus ‘Universal Studios Florida’ over the last five years – and the difference is pretty striking. The new film Eddington will premiere on HBO Max in the U.S. on Friday, November 14th. It will also air on HBO on Saturday, November 15th at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The movie stars Austin Butler, Emma Stone, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Amélie Hoeferle, Clifton Collins Jr., and William Belleau. Eddington centers on a tense conflict between a sheriff and a mayor in the town of Eddington, New Mexico, which quickly escalates tensions among the residents.

Recent data from Antenna, a research firm specializing in the “Subscription Economy,” shows a significant increase in cancellations for two streaming services. Both services saw their monthly churn rates double from August to September – one jumped from 4% to 8%, and the other from 5% to 10%. This likely reflects the impact of a viewer boycott, which was sparked by concerns over the handling of a suspension and the brief pause of a late-night show.

The sequel, Black Phone 2, takes the story in a new direction, building on what came before. It focuses heavily on supernatural themes, making the killer a ghost and much of the story happen within Gwen’s dreams. As a result, the characters and plot feel more like a stylized fantasy than a realistic portrayal.
