The new Tubi Original movie, A Mother’s Confession, which premiered this month, features Ciera Angelia (known from Empire), Raymond Seay (Mindhunter, Judas and the Black Messiah), George Murray Jr. (Spilled Paint), Brandon McGee (A Dark Place), Keon Black (The Last Assignment), James Jay Alexander (Abbott Elementary), Stephanie Benkovich (Christy), Sencere Brown (Friend Zone), and Shawn Ray (Man in the Blue Suit). Directed by Maya Table and written by Donna Christopher and LisaBeth Willis, the film has quickly become popular and reached the #1 spot on , despite being a relatively unknown title.

In July 2022, Shah admitted to laundering money and initially received a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence. However, she served less than half of that time thanks to good behavior, participation in prison programs – including a fitness class she led – and payments she started making to those she harmed, according to People magazine. She was required to pay a total of $6.5 million to her victims.

I’m starting by acknowledging the disappointments of the past year in horror releases, which helps explain what isn’t on this list and provides background for what is. Instead of focusing on films that failed to impress, I’ve highlighted the horror movies that truly stood out. You’ll find a range here – some are daring and original, pushing the boundaries of the genre, while others are simply enjoyable surprises. But what they all have in common is that they left a lasting impression, giving me something new to ponder or fear – which is particularly noteworthy considering how much real-world horror we’ve all been facing.
