There’s a Purple Rain Check on Netflix’s Prince Documentary
For over five years, Edelman labored on the documentary, as stated by the New York Times in a feature about the project. The rights to the final version of the documentary belonged to both Edelman and Netflix, but they allowed the estate to check it for “factual accuracy.” It appears that Netflix relied on the estate and their archive to complete the documentary, since, according to the same report, there was very little unscripted or personal footage in the archive that the filmmakers could access. Last year, Variety reported claims from an insider that the documentary contained “dramatic” factual inaccuracies.
