Paddington in Peru Hits Netflix May 15: Fans Rejoice Despite Critic Scores

Fans of Paddington, the adored marmalade-loving bear, can anticipate his latest adventure arriving soon on Netflix. This upcoming release marks the third film in the character’s live-action/animated series and will be available for streaming later this month.

Starting May 15th, you’ll be able to stream “Paddington in Peru” on Netflix. This third installment of the beloved family-focused series was released in the UK in November 2024 and in the US in February 2025. It continued the franchise’s streak of success, raking in over $191 million globally, pushing the total box office earnings to more than $600 million. Interestingly, “Paddington in Peru” received a Rotten Tomatoes score of , which might come as a shock to some moviegoers, as it’s actually the lowest rating yet for this franchise.

In “Paddington 3: Paddington’s Peruvian Expedition”, Ben Whishaw lends his voice once again to the delightful bear who eats marmalade, this time embarking on a journey back to Peru to see Aunt Lucy, now living at the Retirement Home for Bears. The Brown family accompanies him, and an exhilarating adventure unfolds as they find themselves entangled in a perplexing mystery that leads them deep into the Amazon rainforest and all the way to the towering peaks of Peru. This is according to the official summary for the upcoming film.

In the sequel titled “Paddington in Peru“, we have some familiar faces returning to their roles. These include Hugh Bonneville as Henry Brown, Julie Walters as Mrs. Bird, Jim Broadbent as Samuel Gruber, Madeleine Harris as Judy Brown, Samuel Joslin as Jonathan Brown, and Imelda Staunton lending her voice to Aunt Lucy. Emily Mortimer steps into the shoes previously filled by Sally Hawkins, taking on the role of Mary Brown. Additionally, Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas, and Carla Tous join the cast, playing the roles of Reverend Mother, Hunter Cabot, and Gina Gabot respectively, completing the star-studded ensemble.

Fans of Paddington were delighted by an unexpected appearance at the end of the third movie, where Jim Broadbent reappeared as the antagonist from Paddington 2, Phoenix Buchanan. Director Dougal Wilson shared that this cameo was a thoughtful gesture to bring closure, saying, “It seemed fitting for Paddington to make amends with his adversary from the second film.” He further added, “What if Paddington was the one paying a visit, and his bear tribe were visiting Phoenix because Paddington had forgiven him?

More Paddington Is on the Way

It was announced in September 2024 that more Paddington adventures will continue beyond Peru, as StudioCanal revealed they were working on new films for the franchise. These upcoming projects are planned to release by the franchise’s 70th anniversary in 2028.

At one point, StudioCanal’s Sissel Henno mentioned that they were simultaneously developing a new TV show and a movie set to release in 2027 and 2028. Furthermore, the franchise has ventured beyond the screen, as “Paddington: The Musical” was announced for November 2025. This musical will mark the second stage adaptation of the book series, following Shirlie Roden’s 1983 production titled “Paddington Bear’s Magical Musical“.

Paddington in Peru arrives on Netflix on May 15.
