Oxenfree Reported To Be Removed From Itch.io Starting Oct. 1st

As a devoted fan of Night School Studio’s masterpiece, Oxenfree, I find myself both saddened and intrigued by the news of its impending departure from Itch.io. Having played this captivating supernatural graphic adventure game eight years ago, it holds a special place in my gaming memories. The thought of losing access to it on such a significant platform is like being separated from an old friend.

As a passionate fan, I wanted to share some unfortunate news about one of my favorite games, Oxenfree, developed by Night School Studio. According to recent updates, this supernatural graphic adventure game is expected to be removed from a prominent independent marketplace, Itch.io, later this year. The word has been spread online through notifications sent to account holders on the platform.

On the online gaming community ResetEra, there was much discussion about a notice revealing when Oxenfree would no longer be available on the marketplace platform. The reason for its disappearance from Itch.io hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but some believe that the studio’s acquisition could be the cause for its removal.

Starting on October 1st, 2024, Night School Studio’s Oxenfree will no longer be offered for purchase or download on indie marketplace platform Itch.io. This news has been circulating online, with the game’s removal first gaining attention on ResetEra.

“If you have already downloaded the game, you’ll be able to keep it and continue to play from your downloaded files. If you have not already done so, you can download files until October 1, 2024, to keep the game,” the notice reads.

Players with Oxenfree on Itch.io have until October 1st, 2024 to download the game before it’s no longer an option. Even after that date, those who’ve downloaded the game will still own a copy and be able to keep playing Oxenfree beyond the deadline.

The notice concluded with the developer thanking players for their support in the eight years since the game’s release, which they added that they “hope to see” them “on another service or timeline soon.” Oxenfree looks to remain available on console and PC via GOG.com and Steam as of writing; however, its time has reached its heartbreaking conclusion on Itch.io.
