Overwatch 2’s New Perks System Sparks Controversy Among Players

In simpler terms, some players are finding Overwatch 2’s revamped Perk system refreshing, a change they believed was necessary. However, not everyone agrees, creating a split within the gaming community.

In Season 15, Overwatch introduced a fresh Hero Abilities enhancement system, enabling characters to acquire new skills by earning experience and progressing through a match. Some of these abilities include granting Sombra the power to heal allies using her Hack skill, and allowing Orisa to reinstate her Protective Barrier shield from the original game.

Although the novel system introduced into OW2 brings a refreshing change and receives generally favorable responses, it has also sparked disagreements regarding the rewards, particularly in relation to how they’re distributed among specific characters.

Perks do not fit some characters

In the gaming community, a well-known Doomfist player named GetQuakedOn voiced his dissatisfaction about Doomfist’s abilities.

He mentioned that advantages can be effective when well-managed, but he still favors returning the game to a 6-versus-6 format and achieving balance…Also, he seems disappointed about the Doom perks as he wonders where the ‘Uppercut’ is located.

According to content creator and Overwatch specialist, KarQ, it’s his opinion that the changes made by perks might not be substantial enough to significantly alter the gameplay experience. He anticipates that the game may still feel rather similar to its previous state.

According to KarQ, an initial analysis of Overwatch Season 15 suggests that the gameplay won’t be drastically altered as one might expect. Essentially, he believes the overall gaming experience will remain consistent with only a few exceptions, such as Tracer potentially having six blinks.

Many people who appreciate Perks generally feel that the system is still in its developmental stages, not yet perfectly fine-tuned, and bears the characteristics of a preliminary design that could use refinement.

One Reddit user commented, “I genuinely enjoy the system; it adds an exciting element to the game without disrupting its fundamental mechanics.” Yet, they noted that it seems like a preliminary version. “It’s packed with promising concepts, but also has its share of underwhelming elements. Many perks either offer dull power upgrades, clearly outperforming their nearby options, or simply lack any captivating effects.

The rewards, or perks, seemed somewhat debatable in their implementation by the development team. Yet, despite this, there are undeniably some characters who gain less advantage from the system compared to others. Notably, Questron, a dedicated Sombra player, feels that her perks don’t necessarily align with the character and fail to enhance her strength.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve been pondering my thoughts and I’m beginning to suspect that Sombra’s abilities might not be quite on par with the rest of the Damage Heroes’ perks.

Regardless of the overall negative sentiment, Perks are widely considered a constructive move for the game. Here’s hoping that Blizzard continues to polish this system, as it appears the outlook for Perks remains promising.
