The new Hero Perks system in Overwatch 2 is now established among the gaming community, and experienced players are starting to share their opinions about which perks they think are most effective.
During Season 15, Overwatch introduced Hero Perks as a significant new feature, enhancing the gameplay with the ability for players to upgrade their heroes and select additional skills during matches. Each hero receives four perks, which may lead to certain characters being more advantageous than others.
With the addition of perks, certain characters have gained significant power, while others with specialized perks find themselves slightly disadvantaged. As Hero Perks have been part of the game for a while now, professional Overwatch players and content creators are discussing the most useful perks for each character.
Most dominant perks in Overwatch Season 15
Experienced and ex-top-tier gamers are now compiling rankings for every ability in the game, although it’s important to note that these lists aren’t absolute as certain abilities can be highly situational. However, there appears to be a general agreement among players regarding some of the most powerful abilities.
Ana
Generally speaking, many players consider Ana’s abilities among the game’s strongest, with each of her perks proving effective in unique ways. Notably, gaming analysts Flats and Apply concur that Ana’s Shrike ability falls into the S-tier category. This skill enables her to administer nano boosts not only to herself but also an ally, making it a valuable tool for team support. Additionally, Ana’s damage output is impressive, and she can employ this perk as a form of self-defense since the nano heal effect applies to herself as well.
Apply stated that Shrike will excel primarily due to its strong defensive capabilities. In case of an attack, you can activate its nano shield and effectively end any potential threat.

Ana’s additional advantages are quite significant and could even be considered top-tier. The fact that she can launch a bouncing grenade enhances her anti-healing capabilities, providing wider protection. Moreover, the extra damage it inflicts can assist in securing some kills. Furthermore, while Ana’s double nade may not be as universally useful as her bouncing one, it provides her with a more effective defense against aggressive characters like Wrecking Ball and Doomfist, where the slow effect is particularly impactful.
Torbjorn
Torbjorn has emerged as a highly effective choice, especially in scenarios where diving is common. His abilities that enhance his turrets contribute to him being an exceptional counter to dives. In professional play, this strength is evident through his high selection rate. With Flats rating most of his perks at the top tier, it’s clear that Torbjorn holds a dominant position in competitive matches.
“Both of [Torbjorn’s perks] are insane, arguably some of the best perks in the game,” Flats stated.
Torbjorn’s Level 3 turret is fantastic for tearing through tanks and boasting additional toughness. When he uses Overload, not only does it unleash powerful attacks, but it also restores the turret’s health. Moreover, with Anchor Bolts equipped, Torbjorn can strategically place his turret in difficult-to-reach spots for the enemy team, effectively drawing their fire and creating a distraction.
Torbjorn has become a popular choice among professional players due to his two exceptional abilities, which solidify him as an effective counter-pick in competitive gameplay.
Tracer
Among the notable benefits from the update, Tracer stands out as she can potentially activate up to six teleports using her Flashback ability’s Perk, which refills all her teleport charges following a Recall. This feature significantly boosts her resilience, making it even more formidable compared to other heroes.
In his opinion, “flashback” is unquestionably the most impressive feature in the entire game. He noted that on Tracer, it’s simply mind-blowing to have all your recalls returned – you can perform some truly extraordinary feats with so many recalls at your disposal.
As a devoted fan, I’ve discovered an incredible advantage when it comes to Tracer: with Blink Packs, she can amass up to seven instant blinks, potentially more if she strategically uses her cooldowns. This character has always been formidable, almost impossible to catch. But this added layer of mobility makes her even stronger, making her evasive prowess all the more formidable.
In the future, the Overwatch team plans to fine-tune the game’s balance, as the current perk system may still seem rough given its recent introduction. Consequently, some imbalances might occur. To achieve victory while progressing through ranks, it’s suggested to play these particular characters and utilize the mentioned perks.
