With anticipation for Season 13 running high, it seems Blizzard has some significant plans for Overwatch 2 as we approach 2024. One of the most exhilarating revelations came from the recently unveiled Season 13 trailer, giving us a fleeting peek at the new hero that’s on its way to the game.
Despite the short duration of the preview, gamers swiftly started guessing who the new character might be, offering various hypotheses that some found plausible. Let’s delve deeper and examine what we currently understand about the upcoming hero slated for Overwatch 2 in Season 14.
Blizzard Teases New Tank Hero “Phreak” Coming In Season 14
In the debut trailer for Overwatch 2 Season 13, following the unveiling of the new Mythic Skin and Halloween Terror event, there’s a fleeting yet captivating moment. This includes a damaged Oasis University spawn room, accompanied by text on the wall that says “Fight Back” and “Phreaks.” Not long after, a Scottish voice proclaims, “It appears we are witnessing a revolution.
In Season 13’s trailer, it seems quite plausible that the hero for Season 14 was hinted at, possibly with the nickname “Phreak” or being a member of the group known as “The Phreaks”. The name “Phreaks” is visible on a jacket and there’s a “revolution” scene on the Overwatch map Paris, which could be references to this character. Additionally, an old concept art of a hero from the early Titan days may also suggest this tease!

As a devoted fan, I couldn’t help but dive into the intriguing teaser we recently received. It didn’t take long for us to start piecing together its clues, and many have connected it to an old concept, a mohawked character named “Phreak.” Originally designed for the canceled MMO Titan, which later became Overwatch, Phreak is now causing quite a stir among players. The theory that’s gaining momentum suggests that “Phreak” might represent a gang faction in the upcoming Overwatch 2. This idea has gained traction due to the game’s original launch trailer, which showcased a trio of characters, one of whom sported a leather jacket bearing the words “Phreaks.
It’s possible that the upcoming hero might be called “Phreak” or associated with a team named “The Phreaks.” Usually, new characters’ names are kept secret until the very end, similar to how Juno was previously referred to as “Space Ranger.” However, given that this information is based on older ideas, there’s a likelihood that the hero’s name or specifics could be altered.
Currently, it’s thought that the upcoming character might function as a tank, given that our DPS team is full and the Support role was just filled with Juno. However, it’s almost certain that this new hero will in some way be connected to the Phreaks, either by name or through their affiliation.
