As a dedicated Overwatch 2 gamer, I’ve just gotten a sneak peek at the director’s plans for Season 16! The insights they shared give me a clear idea of where they’re headed with this game update, and it’s safe to say, I can’t wait to see it all unfold!
Additionally, while some adjustments to benefits for certain characters like Freja and a few tweaks have been disclosed, there are also quite a few broader changes throughout the game that have been subtly suggested or explicitly unveiled.
Here’s what we know so far about Overwatch 2 Season 16 and what you can expect from the full patch.
Overwatch 2 Season 16 early patch notes
6v6 is sticking around
In the Director’s explanation, it was made clear that the game mode 6v6 will persist in both competitive and casual play, while approximately one-third of players opt for the 5v5 format instead.
Although it’s not quite as widely used as the main mode at present, its popularity is strong enough that it’s expected to continue through Season 16. It will maintain an open queue format to prevent queue times from becoming excessive, much like what was experienced in Overwatch 1.
Significant perk changes coming soon
Aaron Keller shared just a glimpse of the perk adjustments coming up, but he did offer some clues about the potential modifications for various other characters.
In simpler terms, the developer mentioned that if a hero’s abilities seem less effective overall, they aim to provide new choices instead. Additionally, they are continually working on generating more impressive options for future updates. The idea is to ensure that no single ability consistently outshines the others in terms of effectiveness.
We can expect a full list of these perk reworks when the Season 16 patch drops.
