The community playing Overwatch 2 is urging for adjustments (or “nerfs”) to a particularly powerful tank character, as the mid-season 15 update didn’t sufficiently balance out the strongest heroes.
The update on Overwatch 2’s Hero Perks has been generally well-received, attracting more players and providing a much-needed boost to keep up with rival games. Nevertheless, some gamers are expressing dissatisfaction about how Blizzard is managing balance using this novel feature.
Many individuals have voiced their disappointment over Blizzard not adjusting some overpowering Damage Per Second (DPS) characters. Simultaneously, players find a specific tank character particularly problematic as it’s been monopolizing the competitive scene and negatively impacting the Hero Perks update.
Players say Overwatch 2’s Zarya is too strong
Critics have heavily criticized Blizzard’s handling of the mid-season 15 balance adjustment, where they chose to boost underperforming abilities rather than lessening dominant ones. As of now, players express a sense of dissatisfaction as they feel this adjustment has yielded minimal results, with top heroes still dominating the scene.
Regarding tanks like Zarya, some players criticize that she is causing issues with the recent Perks update because she can acquire an enormous amount of vertical mobility using her Jump-Ups perk and exploit her high damage with her Energy Lance to penetrate targets when her energy level exceeds 50.
“Zarya, Ana, and Sojourn being left untouched in any way is absurd to me,” wrote one user.
As a gamer, I can’t help but marvel at the sight of going one-on-five against the enemy team with Zarya and coming out victorious, all thanks to her unique abilities!
In solo queue games, Zarya stands out for her strength due to the fact that less coordinated teams may struggle to keep track of her energy shields (bubbles) and overpower her when her abilities are recharged. Because solo queue often lacks coordination, Zarya’s power shines more brightly and can make her an almost unstoppable force.
One player noted that teams continue to adhere to the exceptional strategy, “Don’t attack Zarya,” as another player put it, “…which essentially means she can roam freely across the map without any hindrance.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that Blizzard hasn’t given enough boosts to weaker abilities, which means the powerful champions keep ruling the roost. Moreover, it seems like there’s a bias towards some heroes in the game, as they often control the meta, leaving players accusing Blizzard of showing favoritism.
As a fellow enthusiast, I can’t help but echo the sentiment shared by another player: “We seem to be misunderstanding the ‘if everyone is overpowered (OP), then no one is,’ principle.” The truth is, there appears to be an undeniable bias and imbalance in the abilities of characters such as Ana, Tracer, Sojourn, and Zarya. They are simply extraordinary!
Essentially, mid-season updates usually don’t encompass as many alterations as a complete season update. Given that Blizzard plans to frequently switch up Perks, it’s likely that the more powerful characters will be balanced out, allowing less dominant heroes to have their moment in the spotlight.
During the period from March 21 to March 24, Freja will have a short trial run for testing. It’s possible that Freja could disrupt the current game dynamics, so it’s advisable to try her out and hone your skills in preparation for her launch in Season 16.
