Players of Overwatch 2 have generally enjoyed the new ability system, but there’s a widespread consensus among the community that one of the original heroes requires some tweaking for balance.
Refreshing old abilities and granting new powers to characters in Overwatch 2 has rejuvenated the game, offering an increased level of complexity to the genre of hero shooters.
During gameplay, players enhance their hero characters by advancing levels, which in turn allows for the activation of unique skill enhancements, making them more potent. However, regarding Mei in Overwatch 2, the community believes that the developers could improve her capabilities a little more.
At present, one of Mei’s lesser benefits, Permafrost, seems rather lackluster, extending the duration of her Ice Wall by just two additional seconds. Many players feel that this aspect needs an upgrade, and they’ve got a promising suggestion for enhancement.
Simple Overwatch 2 perk change would make Mei way more fun
On Reddit, a user proposed an idea that was then circulated on X, suggesting that Mei should move faster when firing her Endothermic Blaster on the ground.
Fans have long asked for this capability in the past, and now that it comes with benefits, it appears to be an obvious choice. Interestingly, she has been employing this technique in Heroes of the Storm as well.
The video clearly demonstrated how the bonus feature functioned, effectively allowing Mei to glide over the ice as if she were skating, boosting her speed by 50%.
In Overwatch 2, imagine if Mei’s special ability was transformed into an Ice Skiing Boost, which would accelerate her movement speed.
Specifically, with the Endothermic Blaster equipped, she could run on ice at a speed that is 50% faster than normal.

One player expressed their surprise when they found out that the feature wasn’t added, given that it’s something many users have requested for quite some time. Additionally, they pointed out that the current wall bonus is disappointing, and expressed hope for an improvement.
“Wall perk or not, I want to have the ice on the ground boost her speed,” another chimed in.
Someone confessed, “I’ve longed for this for ages – I sometimes even act like I have it when leaving my starting point.

Developers haven’t shared their strategies for balancing perks in the upcoming update just yet. However, it’s hoped that players will eventually have a chance to test these changes, considering that Permafrost seems to be less effective compared to other options at present.
