One enthusiast of Overwatch devised an innovative ability for Lifeweaver, potentially hinting at the direction Blizzard might steer Hero Perks towards in the future.

In Season 15 of Overwatch 2, a fresh mechanic called Hero Perks was introduced, enabling heroes to adopt distinct playstyles and showcase enhanced skill sets. However, it’s worth noting that not all perks were equally effective in their initial stages. While characters such as Tracer gained significant new abilities, like the capability to blink multiple times (up to six or more instances), heroes like Lifeweaver and Sombra didn’t receive much attention.

Due to the lackluster quality of several Perks within the game, enthusiasts have taken it upon themselves to craft fan-generated Perks. A popular Reddit post showcased a fresh Perk concept for the character Lifeweaver, one that significantly alters his playing style as a well-designed Perk should.

One fan improved Lifeweaver’s Perks

Historically, Lifeweaver has been a hero with limited strength, and his primary abilities haven’t significantly improved his standing. Although his minor perks offer some decent benefits, such as enabling Life Grip to purify allies or enhancing survivability and dueling capabilities, his major perks have fallen short of expectations for those who play him.

One Reddit post gained significant attention by enhancing a key advantage in one of its Major Perks. With Lifeweaving, Lifeweaver’s following Healing Blossom receives an extra 20 health points, but this isn’t particularly powerful, especially for a Major Perk. A player took it upon themselves to revamp this ability using the Overwatch Workshop, addressing one of Lifeweaver’s main shortcomings and providing the Perk with the necessary impact.

By modifying this player’s ability, the Lifeweaving Perk transforms his targeted heal into an ability that can hop to one nearby ally, thereby granting him area-of-effect healing capabilities. Initially, Lifeweaver possesses substantial healing power, but it is limited to a single target. Introducing an additional area-of-effect heal (at half its original effectiveness) will make him more reliable as the main healer.

Players were a fan of this change, saying that they wish more Perks were like this one.

One user commented, ‘I really hope more Perk systems would be as effective as the Orisa shield, or be adjusted similar to the Turret modifications by Torbjorn.’ They found some Perks to be quite underwhelming, stating that they’re essentially just numerical adjustments.

Players found that the modification enhanced Lifeweaver’s gameplay style without significant disadvantages, a trait often lacking in other characters like Sombra.

One player commented, “You do have a useful ability, but it comes with significant downsides.” Another player explained that Sombra’s main skills both have serious disadvantages, making them unappealing for use.

Certain players, such as the original poster, contend that perks ought to function as a means to compensate for a hero’s inherent vulnerabilities.

The original post suggested that since many Perks appear to offset the shortcomings of heroes, it seemed underwhelming that the Lifeweaving Perk only provided additional healing in the range of 20 or more. This is because, as it stands, Lifeweaver doesn’t require even more burst healing.

In simple terms, Blizzard has expressed readiness to revamp some unimpressive abilities within the game. In response to certain initial abilities not meeting expectations, they’ve promised to introduce at least one new ability for every character towards the end of 2025.
