Excited Overwatch 2 gamers are already discussing which troublesome characters they’ll eliminate from games once the anticipated hero restriction feature is released.
In the upcoming Season 16, Overwatch is set to receive another significant update. This includes the much-anticipated debut of Stadium mode and the addition of DPS hero Freja to the roster. Additionally, it introduces a highly requested feature by the community – the option to ban certain heroes.
In the wake of its triumph in Marvel Rivals, when the update goes live, competitive teams will have the power to veto one character per team, making them unplayable in every game at higher tiers. Although this feature won’t be rolled out until April, players are already strategizing which characters they plan to challenge.
Since the announcement of this feature, there’s been a surge of posts discussing which characters ought to be banned, with some heroes appearing frequently. Despite each player having their own hated adversaries, a few names keep recurring: Zarya, Widowmaker, and Sombra.
Zarya, Widowmaker, and Sombra mains are in for a rough time
These three characters frequently bring frustration into matches, each for distinct causes. For instance, Zarya’s role as a tank grants her exceptional durability thanks to her continual production of shield bubbles. Moreover, firing these barriers boosts the strength of her primary weapon, creating confusion about when it’s best to engage or retreat.
Widowmaker faces criticism for her powerful one-shot sniper, capable of eliminating a backline with only a few strategic headshots. Given that many team-based shooter games can be easily disrupted by losing even a single member of your four-person squad, it’s been suggested that having one character able to eliminate another so swiftly disrupts the rhythm of matches.
Over time, Sombra has been a highly contentious DPS character within the game, often requiring multiple adjustments to maintain balance. However, even with numerous attempts, her high damage output, ability to become invisible, and Hack skill that disables your own abilities make her incredibly frustrating when wielded by skilled players.
As a result, numerous squads may opt for character substitution in an attempt to neutralize one or multiple chosen characters, which can sometimes disrupt your team composition as you strive to prevent a single hero from overpowering. However, when the character bans are implemented, spectators will be able to eliminate them entirely from consideration.
Absolutely, the bans are a collective decision, so you’ll need your group to agree on vetoing a particular hero to increase your chances of getting that support when playing together. However, if a team consists of five friends who all concur on a single character to select, they’ll never encounter each other in the game.
If your go-to characters are Zarya, Widowmaker, or Sombra, you may find yourself needing to master a different hero as you work towards earning the Galactic weapons.
