Blizzard is pulling out all the stops for the June 24 Overwatch 2 update, offering a wealth of changes ranging from fine-tuning many heroes’ abilities to introducing fresh maps, game modes, and features that fans can look forward to.
After much anticipation, we’ve received all the specifics about Overwatch 2’s Season 17 update, and it’s quite a spectacle! Apart from introducing the exciting new map, Aatlis – Flashpoint, there’s also Map Voting now available, allowing teams to make their own strategic choices when selecting battles.
Improvements in Reporting and Endorsements are noticeable, and there’s a brand-new game mode to explore! The exciting new mode, Hacks & Hijinx, introduces randomized effects for each round, offering exhilarating bonuses such as Health Packs charging Ultimate abilities. General Updates
Map Voting
- Map voting is a new feature that gives players more agency about what map they would prefer to play on.
- At the start of every Quick Play or Competitive Match, three randomly selected maps will appear, and each player will cast a single vote on the map they will want to play.
- During the Map Voting phase, all text and voice channels to both teammates and opponents are disabled.
- Votes for each map from all players are then are displayed and the game will then ârollâ to see which vote is selected.
- Maps with more votes are more likely to be selected but maps with less votes can still be selected if the roll lands on one of the votes for the map with less votes.
- If players vote overwhelmingly for a single map, that map is automatically selected.
- After Map Voting in Competitive Play, the Hero Ban phase will begin.
Report Tool
- A new report category called Emergency is now added to the report tool and can be access in all areas you can report a player except for the quick-select report button in the Scoreboard.
- You can then report instances of social communication that implies a threat of extreme harm to another person or a group of persons.
- False reporting other players using these categories may result in actions issued on the reporting playerâs account. Please remember to abide by the Blizzard In-Game Code of Conduct including when reporting other players.
Player Endorsements
- Endorsement scoring has been updated to be more dynamic and to improve the accuracy of the system, with the goal of making Endorsement level feel more earned. Endorsement level should feel like a better measure of positivity, sportsmanship, and teamwork once the system has had some time to adjust to the new scoring.
- The scoring system now considers a variety of circumstances when players endorse each other, such as giving bonus score in situations players rarely endorse, like endorsing an enemy on a loss.
- Players that never Endorse others will cause much less decay for their allies. Weâd like players that want to ignore the system to also be ignored by the system.
- These scoring updates may cause endorsement levels to be more volatile in the short term, so weâll be watching these changes carefully and tuning the dynamic scoring as needed.
Streamer Protect
- Hide My Name now rotates to a different fake BattleTag after every match.
- A new option in Streamer Protect advanced options will now block licensed music from playing in order to prevent the risk of copyright claims on playerâs personal social and streaming channels. When enabled, the default Overwatch 2 theme will now play in any lobby where music we flag is considered to be copyrighted by a third party.

In this update for Fire Strike: Our goal is to enhance the consistent use of Fire Strike and Magma Strike’s Trail of Lava by redistributing power. We are reducing the high single-target burst previously provided by Impact Burst. Additionally, we’re making some tweaks to Reinhardt’s Barrier build to make it a more attractive choice and offer a smoother learning curve.
For Fire Strike, we’re making changes to make the skills Fire Strike and Magma Strike’s Trail of Lava more frequently available while reducing their high single-target burst damage (Impact Burst). For Reinhardt’s Barrier build, we’re adjusting things so it’s a more appealing choice and easier to master.

In Stadium, Zarya was often producing excessive energy because she could deal increased damage and have higher Barrier Health. To make her easier to handle, we’re limiting the amount of energy she can gain in this area. Additionally, we’re reducing effects that extended her Barrier duration and instead introducing ones that encourage strategic Barrier usage.

Update on Developer Feedback: Silver Spurs was found to be less effective and often lacked harmony with common strategies. This revision enhances its usefulness and unity, making it a more appealing choice that harmonizes well with diverse gameplay styles. B.O.B. Jr., on the other hand, has shown to be a valuable utility pick for securing control points and surprising enemies with early ultimate abilities. However, its ability to maintain territory became too dependable. To balance things out, we’re tweaking its power level so it remains strategic, but aligns more closely with other choices available.

Comment from Developer: Cassidy’s playstyle of rolling into Fan the Hammer was primarily designed as a close-range burst move. However, it often turned out to be punishing for enemies when they had minimal chance to retaliate due to its long range. This update modifies the combo to better suit close-quarter battles, allowing its high-risk, high-reward nature to thrive without causing distant frustration.

- Increased cash income from damage and healing by 13.3%.
Lille FĂŠlde â Power
- Increased damage to 50% reduced damage (up from 60% reduced damage).
- Added 25% reduced radius on Bola Shot fired by Lille FĂŠlde.

Developer Notes: Freja has been finding it challenging in Stadium due to the combined nerfs in the main game and the Stadium-specific updates. To bring her DPS level closer to that of other characters in Stadium, we’re enhancing her income. Additionally, we’re boosting Hunter’s Mark to make it a more dependable choice when Freja is behind. We’re also aiming to minimize the visual distraction of Lille FĂŠlde by reducing its noise level, while simultaneously increasing its damage to make it a more viable option.

In this game update, we’re addressing some concerns about Genji. His melee builds have grown popular and we love it! However, the backstab build with its consistent burst damage can sometimes feel challenging for players to counter. To address this, we’re lowering the maximum damage potential of this build but increasing its sustainability to keep it balanced. Additionally, we want to enhance the Ability Power Swift Strike build early in matches to make its important components more noticeable. We have plans for a larger Genji overhaul in an upcoming update.

This modification will boost her burst potential, providing greater rewards to players who successfully trap enemies within a mini-blizzard or a full blizzard.

Update Remarks: The main focus for Reaper’s latest upgrade is to improve the dependability of Ability Power Reaper, particularly during early and mid-game rounds.
