This year, it’s anticipated that characters in Overwatch 2 will gain at least one fresh Perk update to ensure that the Hero Perks system remains dynamic and up-to-date.
In the latest season (Season 15) of Overwatch 2, a fresh Hero Perks system was introduced, bringing a new lease of life to a game that had started to feel stagnant. Yet, with an impressive addition of 168 new perks, some concerns about balance have arisen due to their uneven distribution.
Although Hero Perks exhibit significant power, their current implementation occasionally comes across as a preliminary sketch, with several characters possessing perks that are overly specialized or lack value compared to other options. However, Blizzard is actively working on refining these Perks, as they’ve already outlined some major adjustments in the pipeline.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the game developers have assured us that each character in the game will be graced with at least one fresh Perk by the end of 2025.
Overwatch 2 devs plan to change dozens of Perks
During a Q&A session on the /r/CompetitiveOverwatch subreddit, Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson revealed plans for a “refreshing” of perks mid-year. The aim is to enhance variety by providing multiple choices between perks, rather than each hero having a single, overpowering Perk.
In simpler terms, Dawson mentioned that each hero in the game will receive a fresh ability or bonus (perk) to experiment with. However, it’s yet to be determined exactly how this update will manifest for Season 18. He estimates that around 25-50% of these perks may undergo changes, some being entirely new additions and others receiving major adjustments.
As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Dawson mentioned they’re pondering over a potential update for the mechanics governing Perks within the game.
As a fan, I might anticipate alterations in the replay system, progress acceleration, or even the option to select an initial level, as Dawson suggested.
These potential modifications to the system might also include the option for players to exchange skills or abilities for their characters, but with certain restrictions applied.
He mentioned that sometimes users unintentionally pick a feature (perk) and then find themselves unable to switch it. He noted that they are monitoring the situation closely to determine if there’s a solution available to assist users in this predicament.
