A petition is gaining support, asking the Academy Awards to give an honorary Oscar to a talented dog actor.
Over 43,000 people are backing a campaign to recognize Indy, the dog who acted in the horror movie Good Boy. This comes after the Academy Awards stated that animal performers can’t be nominated for acting awards.
After Indy published an open letter in Variety on October 9, 2025, the campaign for recognition gained momentum. The letter quickly became a popular topic online, with fans both supporting and questioning the reasons for the petition.
Petition draws mixed reactions online
Indy, the star of the highly praised film ‘Good Boy,’ expressed disappointment after learning he wasn’t considered for the Best Actor award. In a letter – signed with his paw print – he wrote that the decision felt like a setback, saying he apparently wasn’t ‘good enough’ to be recognized.
I’m so excited – the petition to get Indy recognized is almost at 45,000 signatures! Everyone is really getting behind him, and it’s amazing to see. I was reading the comments on a TikTok of Indy and his trainer, and one person perfectly summed it up: “Give Indy his Oscar!” Seriously, he deserves one!
This isn’t the first time the Oscars have overlooked a talented canine performer. In 2024, Messi, the dog who starred in ‘Anatomy of a Fall,’ was excluded from the awards show, which upset many fans.
