As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for international cinema, I find myself utterly intrigued by Outsider Pictures‘ latest acquisitions – “Stormskerry Maja” and “The Missile”. Having traversed the vast cinematic landscape of diverse cultures and stories, I can confidently say that these two Scandinavian dramas stand out as unique gems.

Outside Pictures has made an agreement with Picture Tree International, a sales agency based in Berlin, for the distribution rights of two Scandinavian dramas, “Stormskerry Maja” and “The Missile,” within the U.S. These movies will have limited screenings in theaters next spring.

External Productions, established and managed by Paul Hudson, has achieved prosperity in the past with a number of Scandinavian movies including “Adam’s Apples” and “Helene.

Hudson clarified to EbMaster that while our primary interest lies with movies from Latin and Spanish cinemas, we are always receptive to excellent films hailing from any part of the globe,” he said.

The head of The Outsider remarked, “Stormskerry Maja is reminiscent of a timeless movie that’s hard to find today,” and hinted at its remarkable performance at the Finnish box office. Essentially, he was saying, “With half a million Finnish viewers, it’s clear this film is something special.

“In the most brutal part of our planet, a young girl’s life is molded by death, conflict, and affection into a contemporary woman. She ultimately proves stronger than her adversary: the merciless North Sea.

Today, Hudson revealed the details of Outsider’s second Scandinavian acquisition. He pointed out that although the events portrayed in Finland’s “The Missile” occurred 40 years ago, it seems as if it could be a tale from today, with a unique Nordic sense of humor that gives an unexpected comedic twist to even the darkest stories.

During the holiday season of 1984, “The Missile” story revolves around Niina, a devoted single parent, who unexpectedly becomes entangled in a global missile predicament in the remote Finnish town of Inari. The Soviet Union launches a missile that crosses their border.

The team at Picture Tree is excited to work alongside Outsider Pictures and Paul Hudson, a reliable partner who shares our passion for these films. We believe that with Paul’s knowledge and commitment, ‘The Missile’ and ‘Stormskerry Maja’ will find the right American audience they truly deserve.
