Oscars Joke That Made a Bet and Stunned Fans with Bold Takes on Rap Beef!

I, Skyler Higley, had the brilliant idea to poke fun at the ongoing feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake during the Oscars, a move that turned out to be quite profitable. During the show, I shared my confidence with our executive producer, betting him $50 that my joke would be a hit. Guess what? I just won $50!

Highly, who contributes to CBS’ “After Midnight” and had previously collaborated with O’Brien on his TBS talk show “Conan,” was part of the team of writers that worked on the 2025 Oscars. The group also comprised Amberia Allen, José Arroyo, Josh Comers, Dan Cronin, Jessie Gaskell, Berkley Johnson, Ian Karmel, Brian Kiley, Laurie Kilmartin, Carol Leifer, Jon Macks, Matt O’Brien, Agathe Panaretos and Mike Sweeney. In simpler terms, Highly was among the writers who helped create the content for the 2025 Oscars, alongside others like Amberia Allen and several others.

During the midpoint of the Oscars event, O’Brien emerged on stage, quipped: “We’ve reached the halfway mark, so it’s about time Kendrick Lamar makes an appearance to label Drake as a pedophile. Rest assured, I’m well-prepared with legal advice.

O’Brien brought up Lamar’s Super Bowl Half-time show from last month, where he performed his Grammy-winning track “Not Like Us,” which caused a stir. In this song, Lamar raps: “Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophile,” alluding to Drake’s album titled the same way.

In the hours following the Oscars, Higley penned a message to fans of Drake and music enthusiasts alike. This was amidst divisive responses to his joke. He further addressed those questioning him by saying, ‘I also wrote a joke about the pedophile issue within the Catholic Church; try to remember that.’

O’Brien’s “Conclave” joke touched upon the issue of sexual abuse within the Catholic Church. The joke went as follows: “The film ‘Conclave’ is nominated for the best picture award tonight. If you haven’t watched ‘Conclave’, its summary is, ‘A movie about the Catholic Church…but don’t be alarmed.’

Regarding the Kendrick-Drake joke, Disney executive Rob Mills expressed approval to EbMaster, stating: “When he delivered that line during rehearsal, Jeff Ross and I were both convinced it would be a hit. It was an unexpected move from Conan, but that’s what made it entertaining.

In the aftermath of our ongoing feud, I’ve taken legal action against Universal Music Group. I’ve claimed they’ve slandered me by accusing me of being a pedophile through their song “Not Like Us.” I believe they’ve intentionally spread a false and harmful narrative about me, and I’m fighting back against the defamation and harassment.
